I was wondering if anyone could tell me...

What exactly happens to your body when you fall asleep and why do we need to?

What makes the sky blue?

Hence the "incredibly shity". We need sleep like we need food or water, altering how the process takes place is foolishness.

to RoJ :

Nah, we need sleep to rest as well as have healthy mental activity. If you avoided sleep, even if your mind stayed healthy, your body would become exhausted.

Sleep is the best thing ever, I'd never give it up. *looks lovingly at bed*

Doesn't the "sleepy" feeling occur when a type of chemical rushes into a part of our brain? I remember a program on it a while ago, they were talking about the possibility of making a tablet that counteracted the chemical so we'd never need to sleep. Which is incredibly shity, if you think about it.

If you sleep properly you get to REM sleep where your eyes rapidly move and your brain does some file processing.

It may not sounds scientific, but I think it's to "rest".
