They ship the CD's anyway I think. (or DVD in the case of Gold)
I'm going to go for the Silver package, Half Life 2, Half Life: Source, CS: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Valve's back catalogue of games. I've already pre-loaded HL2 onto my PC, so as soon as it's officially released all I'll need to do is input a code, and away I go.
Went to order the Gold edition last night, until...
HL2-Gold @ $89.99
Tax @ $15.74
Shipping: $29.95
= $135.64... (about £70ish)
Think I'll wait for the UK to catch up. When will Valve learn that life exisits outside of the USA and therfore should find a way to distribute over steam via localization!!
That's assuming we get the special edition over here.

I'm not quite sure that the Pre-load is complete yet though.
I'll be getting the collectors edition if and when it hits the UK, otherwise the Steam Gold Edition of the game may be something else for to consider, though I proffer having the CD in my hand rather than download it.
I already have it.
My order status on Amazon still says something like 'Estimated Delivery Date: 20th September 2003'.
Think I should complain?
Ah, wonderful edit button.
