Just got my connection kit thing from Tiscali, and in it is a Sagem F@ast 800 E2T modem. Which has 1 USB output on the back. Is it possible to get some sort of converter to allow me to connect it to the ethernet port on the back of my Xbox?

Also, could I connect to my PC via ethernet as well, or will windows be looking for a USB modem every time I go on the internet?

Cheers.

Haha! All set up on the PC, just got to give it a go with Xbox Live now. Only got one ethernet cable at the moment though. Think I may need another... ;-)

Anyway, thanks again for the help Bullett, it was much appreciated :-)

They had one, so I've got it. Looks like I won't even need the settings Tiscali gave me, as it looks like it comes pre-set with various ISP settings on there. Unless they've been changed since it was made, of course :-)

It does look really straightforward, so hopefully I'll be all set up with both PC and Xbox Live tonight!

No probs :)

Life is so much easier when you don't have to use a USB modem :D

I've phoned Tiscali and got a list of settings that apparently I need to put into the modem/router - then I just ignore the cd they sent.

I'll have to call SR Sawbo in a minute and see if they've got one of those router things in stock....

Cheers for all the help by the way :-)

Yeah.

As for the Tiscali-software thing, if it's anything like BT/Pipex, you don't need the software. Just put the login details into the 4-port modem's setup details and you're off. If they work like AOL and require their own software however, it's a different story.

I'm afraid I have no knowledge on Tiscali's methods though. Most providers' software is optional though, like BT's.

That makes sense. I will probably look into getting a 4 port modem/router in one at some point. Just worried this may affect the Tiscali connection as the cd they sent out will no doubt have software specific to the modem they supply?

As far as I can remember, it wasn't too painful to set up. I just had to remember it wasn't a direct connection. This meant making sure the cable was crossover, checking the Xbox constantly to see if it had picked the connection up with various tweaks etc.

I used XP Home at the time, and it was relatively easy. I did suffer from disconnects ocasionally, but that was because it was a USB modem - and they're God-awful for stability. convenience for a single machine is their only reason to exist.

It shouldn't be too hard to set up blindly, but I'd always recommend getting an integrated Ethernet modem with router and 4-port switch on the back. That way, you can play on Xbox Live without needing to keep the PC switched on. ICS requires you have the PC on whenever you want to play XBL.

I hope I stuck on track with that. My mind isn't in one place at the moment.

Tiscali do 2 types of modem if I recall, so you may be able to get them to send another to you.
