I just called work, told them I wasn't in today.

My reason:

My car wouldn't start from work yesterday, so I called the AA out - they helped me to get it home, but I need a new alternator.

So this morning I was planning on coming in using my wife's Landrover. Now this is a classic, like 40 years old. As I'm drivig, I find the brakes are intermittently failing. The only way I can stop is to use the handbrake, or pump the brake pedal. So I turn around, go home, and find it's leaking brake fluid.

So I'm stuck at home, and can't get to work.

Really though, I think it sounds completely unfeasible, but it's the absolute truth. I wonder if my manager will believe it? Actually, I doubt he cares, he's not spoken to me in weeks!

Nearly 2/3 of all Land Rovers ever built are still running today, compared to something like 1/20 of all Ford Escorts.

Well I've taken the day as leave now, (unfortunately not a free day off, but I've got plenty left) and I'll just have to get caught up with my workload tomorrow, if it's okay by then, or next week.

Fingers crossed my car will be back on the road today, but it's being done as a favour for me, so if something more urgent comes in, or if they can't get the part, I might be out of luck.

Hmmm, that's bit dodgy then.

You probably should have got later buses and just been late for work rather than miss another entire day.

When is your car likely to get fixed?

20 miles.

I could have got two buses, but that takes over 1hr 20 minutes, and would have meant being out of the house my 6. As I didn't know the Land Rover was going to try to kill me then, I'd already mised it!

I'm surprised your handbrake cable hasn't snapped from all that abuse.

Meh, it's a good excuse.....unless your work is about 10 minutes away and you could walk :P

Awww, well either your father in law wanted rid of your wife or he helped her set you up.

I'd be scared :-).

Ah well, I always took the Dragon reference to be a patriotic Welsh thing. Meka Dragon sounds much cooler than Mighty Leek or Dangerous Daffodil.

It all beggars the question, why do you need a Land Rover to live on a flat piece of extended London :-).

I'm on the opposite side of the country to Wales. East Anglia. Still a few sheep around here though.
