Kenny Miller already looks as if he won't last the match, he's just not fit enough to do this constant running.

Nah, i was talking to my dad last night about how it works. Away goals have nothing to do with anything.

It goes by points.
Then, if teams are tied, it goes by goals scored (Not difference, so they could have scored 20 goals and let 19 in, but if they've scored more, they go through)
If they've scored equal goals, it goes by goal DIFFERENCE (Should be before goals scored I say).
I fthey're tied there, then they look at the results against the top team (Italy), (they lost and drew one, too).
If theose results are the same, then they look at the goals scored against the top team (I don't know the Norway scores).
If they're equal on that, it's a coin toss.

You serious on it going on a coin toss?

That's a joke really. They should change it so that the teams have to play each other at neautral ground with extra-time and penalties being played if scores are level after 90 minutes.

I wouldn't go to a coin toss with Scotland and Norway because we have bettered them by the rules of the game. We beat them 2-1 away, they beat us 1-0 away so if it got that far we would have the edge.

I agree.

The way my dad was telling me last night he was asking me "What do you think tehy do next"
"Away goals?"
"Nope"
"And if they're level on this this this this this and this, what do you think they do?"
"Playoff?"
"Coin toss"

Apparantly Scotland have went out of a major competition before as teh result of a coin toss.
And apparantly for qualification last time, away goals counted as double (Which would be good, as that would have been equivelant to 4 goals against Norway), but not anymore.

This rule about results against each other is a more modern rule which your dad might not have looked at.

It's the system they use in the champions league group stages these days.

Don't know if it's being used in the World Cup qualifiers though, couldn't find any info on the FIFA site to let me know :-).

Well my dad said that that's what they were saying the new FIFA rules for the qualifiers were on the radio after the game, so he only heard it a few hours before he told me.

I'd assume it's up to date.

What makes it awful though, if we hadn't conceded the late goal then if Norway drew and we won our other two, we'd go through, even if Norway won the other game 58-0.

BAH.

In like the 1930s... world cup games and palces were deceided on coin tosses.

" Rar rar it was a gentlemen's game back then rar rar "

Scotland qualified once but because England beat them in the group they refused to go out of pride or something.

We'd have won it that year as well.

Well, that's as far as it's going to go, because Norway have scored loads more than us.

Yup, we need to score 6 goals (although we can win each game 3-2 if we want), and Norway to win 1-0 and draw 0-0 if we've to go through without Norway losing a game.
