I often think about the history of these forums, and how things used to be. That's not to say they've declined in quality over the years, but as with most things, you keep them going long enough and you'll find people complaining that things ain't what they used to be.

Anyway, I got to remembering some of the good times while bored at work today (a regular occurence) and yeah, it might be a bit sad, but some of the memories really did make me smile. UKchatforums.com must be my most visited website ever (still my homepage) and despite it just being a collection of poorly-designed .gif images and text-speak, sometimes it genuinely manages to make me laugh out loud (LOL).

So... in the spirit of one of my Shiznit lists, I want your top UKchatforums.com moments of all time, from throughout history - it can be favourite users, brilliant moments of realisation or just your favourite threads. I'll get us kicked off with a few memories that brightened up my day.

THE BELLDANDY SAGA - I've never had so much fun berating someone over the internet as I did with Belldandy. Probably still floating around somewhere under a newly mysterious (very probably Manga-related) username, Belldandy was NEVER WRONG. Even if he was, he wasn't. And if he really was, then he'd run away and not come out to play, until the next time he was wrong. It came close to bullying at a few points (I used to get his emails) but it was coming from both sides: Goaty, Light, Pandy, myself and others (all anti-war and common sense) versus the one man righteous army of Belldandy.

The Belldandy saga reached a hilarious conclusion, when on one of his many mysterious reappearances under another nick (HALO Fan), he was sussed by the lot of us and nevertheless proceeded to dispute it for several months, despite have all the curt mannerisms and blind flag-wankery that good old Bell had. It stopped being fun when we finally saw a picture of him on Special Observe, then realised our physical name calling was disturbingly prophetic.

There have been others, but none as more fun to bait as Belldandy.

Quite apparently, these forums were a place to come where people could anonymously express themselves openly and found others that were caring and helpful, advising in some way or another that helped their circumstance, as with Ant. That's so wonderful to hear. Sounds like at one time this place used to be a collaboration of mind-tingling creative fun.

Then there are other's that did share things about themselves and their teen angst and were ridiculed, like Grix for instance. Why does just about everyone keep saying that he went insane? From what I know, he fell in love with that phat lasse Celestine and they rode off into the SR sunset to live in America together. Okay, he went mad.

Same.

If you go back far enough in the Life and Football topic, there are a few topics on some intelligent matters, but couldnt see the IB one

No, it wasn't really a decent, more of a straight-plummet.

I definitely remember there being both a Long ... Stories forum and this one at the same time, because most people started posting their stories in Life instead of the Stories forum.

Heh, having arrived on the second day ever of GAD I have far too many memories of this place, which keeps drawing me back in.

I must have been about...13 when I first came on here? Maybe older, maybe younger, not too sure. But at first it was me and The_Best (later known as Darkness_2K, anyone remember him), best mates from school, who invaded the forum, desperate to win free games. Time's changed a lot since then...

Anyway, favourite memories. Well, the very early FOG Stories have got to be in there. Guys like myself, Grix, FM, Sniper, Strafex, Meka and Darkness wrote in these random, ongoing novels that were instant classics. My favourite was the first, I believe, which was the Star Wars one. Stuff of legend, although I kept getting confused about the plot.

Other memories include the first Notable election. Tony (the owner of SR, apparently, and I believe he was) had to choose between me and Sheepy over who became the fifth and final Notable of the first ever election...and picked me! :D I was pretty happy, sadly enough, but got a bit angry with Grix cos he picked Sniper over me. :P

Oh, and the Notable Rebel Alliance REALLY wasn't very funny. At all.

Erm, I remember when I first had my heart broken. Following on from er-no's emotional post about how games helped his life, I posed something in the original FOG called "Now it's my turn..." and told a sad tale of how the girl of my dreams had turned her back on me. It really did mean a lot to me because it was the first time I'd ever told that story to anybody else, so in a strange way these forums definitely used to play a relatively important part of my life, because it was a place where I could say almost anything.

And it was also where I could talk about my Ant colony, and my obsession with sugar...

Anyway, reading this topic and thinking about memories has made me very late so I better be off now...I'll probably return with more memories later...

PS - Who remembers this...?

{:) "ONCE YOU POP, YOU CAN'T STOP!!" CLASSIQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone who's been here any length of time has everyone else's current or old email addresses.

Goatboy's email wasn't hard to find then and probably not now.

I'm guessing his MSN friends list is massive and he just uses that address as his junk one.
