£24.4M.

Bit more realistic, I should think. I haven't that much of Essien but claims that he's as good as Gerrard seemed to me a bit hysterical.

Where would you fit him in? People on the BBC's 606 message board seem to think of him as a replacement for Makelele, or another wide option, or backup for Lampard.

This confuses me. I immediately saw him as a replacement for Gudjonsen as a more natural central midfield partner for Lampard, with Makelele keeping his place behind them in that holding role. Few seem to think it's as clear cut as this.

So given that Chelsea have one of their toughest fixtures ahead of them against Arsenal this Sunday, they'll want their strongest side. Anyone care to speculate on what that might be?

Yeah, the man who spent £24m on the superstar Didier Drogba must know a lot about football.

Saying that, I've got the Drog in my fantasy premier league team... damn that charity sheild performance.

Essien is a waste of time, he is no better than anyone Chelse already own.

Gerrard is someone Chelsea could put to use (he's the best midfielder in the world as far as I am concerned) but Essien is just another one of them chelsea players who will fit in and spend 50% of the time on the bench.

Smith? What a waster. You need some proper strikers like Robbie Robbie Blake and SuperHulse.

And Park is good. Evo never lies.

And don't worry Tribbers Smithy is really happy here at OT, we give him 3 meals a day and a nice warm bed as well as some toys to play with. He's in safe hands.

Yeah, that's what I meant with my midget/giant analogy. Keep it sweet, holmes.

Hehe bless him though, he needs to keep it alive as it's his last hope of Leeds still being a big team. We'll keep it a secret that us "Yoo" fans couldn't really give a toss considering we're playing European and Premiership soccer ball and aren't really concerned about some Division 1 wasters :-D

I love it whenever I see a matteh anti-Man Utd rant. You tell he's typing VERY HARD on the keys and there's spittle in the corner of his mouth when he types 'Yoo'.

It's the equivalent of a midget trying to floor Andre the Giant. He wouldn't even notice.

Edit: Except that Andre is dead now. Sorry, Andre.

Exactly how does Chelsea buying Essien make us sad? Parky > Essien.

We were linked to him months back and nothing came of it so Chelsea can have our rejects :-D,

Nice to see you keeping the one sided rivalry alive though, fight the power :-D
