"Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piñata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from an informed sourced that "the piñata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat."
Interesting.

No. no hard copy. Up to you to back it up.

When you reinstall STEAM, once logged on, it remebers what you owned/installed and re downloads it all for you.

Only real problem is backing up the HL2 files. The main game file is 1.3GB

Bronze @ £30
Silver @ £40
Gold @ £70
All include taxes etc.

No. You'll have to get it in the shops if you want the legit CD version of the game.

You'll have to download it again. You'll have to have an account with them to buy and download it in the first place, so don't worry about having to buy the game again. You will have to go through the trouble of waiting for it to download again though.

I'm sure you can back it up on a couple of blank CD's, or just one blank DVD.

Unknown at this time.

The Silver package (the one I got, and best all round deal) comes in at around £38 plus VAT. That includes Half Life 2, Half Life: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Counter Strike: Source and Counter Strike: Condition Zero if you haven't already got it. The Gold edition is the most expensive, and you also have to pay for postage of the extra items you get.
My expertise in this area aren't thorough, but if you have questions try the Steam forums, there should be someone on there with more in depth info for you: http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=forums

Cookie got it spot on :)

But why would Steam be uploading a pirate version of Half Life 2? I may be confused :0S
Oh, and Play.com have reported HL2 as the 16th, also. Kinda sad, as it means I have to throw my order of Shrek 2 on the backburner so I can pre-order HL2 three days before and hope it arrives two days after.

I've seen the collectors edition in a few places now, £60 in some. I'm glad I got the Silver package off of Steam, it gives you everything the CE gives you, but minus the pointless t-shirt and phot book thingy, and you get an extra game in Day of Defeat, my favourite HL mod.
I'd also like to point out that Counter Strike Deleted Scenes isn't worth the space it takes up on steam, utter guff.

Yep, Steam did it automatically and I only found out it was doing it when it was about 50% done so I thought I might aswell let it finish. Hey Cipro, looks like the Collector's Edition is getting released here in the UK. You can pre-order it at GAME for £49.99

I was talking about the confirmation of date being a bit late, not the game itself. :D
