Brazilian shot dead whilst fleeing from police wearing heavy jacket and vaulting the railings, apparently, did no such thing at all.
Leaked docs to ITV news from the investigation reveal, amongst other things:
"The latest documents suggest Mr de Menezes had walked into Stockwell Tube station, picked up a free newspaper, walked through ticket barriers, had started to run when he saw a train arriving and was sitting down in a train when he was shot."
Does anybody want to place money this will disappear from the news and not be discussed in the major media - as is the tacit agreement that means you don't hear about Iraq anymore with the daily bombs and attacks.
We were approached by a journalist from the BBC, Gareth Furby. He started by asking us if we were scared to be on the number 30 that day and was non-plussed when we replied that we weren’t.
But what really upset him was when I said that the foreign policies of Tony Blair and George Bush were responsible for making London a target in such a horrendous way.
This was beyond Furby’s comprehension. He abruptly terminated the interview and berated me for being “an apologist for terrorism”.
Not that media sources are trying to make sure that the news they report is tailored specifically to whatever message they're trying to project, oh nononononononononononononono...
And not that the BBC has been effectively neutered by the Government post-Hutton, perish the thought...
It doesn't seem like there's any middle ground for a logical discussion anymore. We're just brainwashed with the concerns voiced from each camp via media and politicians. How the hell are you supposed to make an informed decision on what is real and what needs to be done?
Most people consider the tabloids to be full of ill-conceived half-baked theories and accusations. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that media of all types is similarly biased towards drama. You can't trust 90% of the things you read these days.
It's pathetic when you consider it - when will the world grow up?
I saw the family's lawyer on BBC Breakfast yesterday and it seems that they're building a case against the police. Anyone seen any other indications that they're going to try for damages as well as an investigation?
Even though I'm white, which probably means I could actually leave my rucksack AND run and be ok.
**edit**
In my righteous lefty defence, I've seen two episodes.
But I read Chomsky and No Logo furiously afterwards and helped build a well for poor people.
> Don't forget downbeat comedies starring Ricky Gervais.
But they are allowed. They're on the list of "Things people can watch. By Goatboy."
At least the police might think twice before shooting some bloke on a subway 11 times as he sits reading a metro.
The story isn't new, there are a few additional details (ie. he was apparently restrained before they decided he posed an imminent threat and were forced to shoot him in the head eight times just to make sure he really was dead...), but it is interesting that most media didn't report these things until now, when this leak, that isn't easily ignored, appeared...
Unlucky!
