I've got quite a big catalogue of music on my PC and on my shelves, and every time another album skips round on random that I haven't heard in a while, I often find myself thinking 'whatever happened to these guys? They used to ROCK.' There's so many bands out there that absolutely have the potential to be amazing in every way, but are seemingly more content to put out cruddy ballads or boffo electronica to try and alienate as many people as possible, thus proving their artistic integrity. Either that or they just started to suck. A few examples:

Radiohead Please please please don't turn this into a Radiohead sucks/Radiohead rules thread, because that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that after listening to the Bends, I'm gagging for them to go back and write some songs that try to tear the roof off the joint - they haven't let loose for ages, but when they used to play My Iron Lung or even Paranoid Android, no one could touch them. Please start rocking again.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club I've got both of their albums and on each there are a couple of amazing songs that attempt to shatter the inside of your head they're so awesome, but the rest of them albums are full of dreary Jesus & Mary Chain knock-offs and show-gazing nonsense. Whatever Happened To My Rock N Roll is fantastic, Six Barrell Shotgun likewise. Why no more of these ones, boys?

Cooper Temple Clause I remember one of the albums I was most excited about a few years ago was the new Coopers album, because I loved most of the tracks on the first one, and the new single Promises Promises was the best song I had heard that year. Why then, was the album a complete Cleveland steamer? Why not turn the fuzzbox up and drown out the singer's whiny voice, rather than messing about with lame effects and the kind of sounds you get on your school keyboard.

Audioslave First album = ace, not a patch on Rage but Cochise and Set it Off were great, rest of the LP was not far behind. Second album? Still hasn't grabbed me yet, just lots of shouting while Tom Morello puts his pedals on Hold and wishes he'd gone to be a Mexican freedom fighter with Zach. How can a band with such a great heritage turn into a band with no balls?

There are more, but I'm too depressed to think of them. I'm going to put Evil Empire on and put my head through the ceiling.

Snugs is the only one to see them in concert, so he's the worst by default.

I think they may have had a song I liked, that "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman..." one, but they got real old, maaaan. And queer.

The acoustic album is fantastic. They need to start writing rock properly though, like Weenie Beenie, Wattershed and Exhausted from the first album, and anything from the second.

Don't understand all the fuss over Everlong though. I'm the biggest Foo Fighters fan evar and it does absolutely nothing for me. Aurora and Exhausted are so much better.

Ahahaha, MM and Snuggs, this distancing yourself from the Darkness is fecking fantastic to read. "you loved them", "No, you did".

I rub my hands in eager anticipation to see who is the winner.

One thing you can't really do is criticise other peoples interest in music, some people might like the music you're into, whilst others don't.

Over time, I've noticed music and movies are one of the main subjects of 'high brow' culture. I can imagine someone coming onto this forum and casually saying

"I like James Blunt" (or any other band/artist)

99% of the time he'll be ripped to pieces, because people will oppose music and criticise his interests.

That's why I try to stay away from discussing music anymore on here.

Let's Kill Music by TCTC (it's on the list) is good.

I agree that these bands need to be a little bit heavier/rock than they are.

They're mainly just music for middle-class people going through middle-aged mid-life crisis crap to me anyway (just wanted to use a lot of 'mids').

Ah, Foo Fighters - write more songs like All My Life, Everlong and This is a Call and stop bennying around with acoustic albums. Acoustic albums are for effete ponces who wear flowery shirts, use talcum powder and hang around in the crowd of Jools Holland hoping they'll get an ironic nod from the dwarf of late night acceptable pop.

I'm pointing the finger of shame at monkey and completely denying any allegations that I felt anything but utter hatred for The Darkness from the first second I heard them. MM, dude, I remember you saying something... like you LOVED them and wanted to BUM them. Or something.

But not me.

Not only is there a new The Darkness album on the way, but also the solo album from Justin Hawkins. I've heard the cover of This Town Ain't Big Enough... and, well, it's not as good as Sparks - so where does that leave you?

Still, I enjoyed the first album, thought it was a good laugh, so I'll at least give the second a listen.
