Is this word number too low?
It hardly encourages insightful debate, does it, it's only 25 words per post!
Maybe fewer posts and more words would encourage some newbies not to flood the forums with two line answers, but actually add to discussion with their own views.

Not just 12000 words, but 12000 words in 300 posts -
So if you've posted 450 meesages, you have to have over 18000 words.
Over 40 words per post average. Shouldn't be too hard to do, but should cut down on some of the more pointless messages.
