Can somebody tell me everything I need to know about WiFi routers, I want to get one so I can play with my PSP online but I dont really understand how it works.

Im expecting it to be really complicated so i'd like to know more about it.

Couple of questions:

How much can I get one for?

How do I set it all up?

Actually, I have one more:

Where would you recommend I get one?

And any other things I should know?

Thanks!

Can I just ask: What is the difference between these two routers?

and

One is cheaper than the other, i've heard these being reccomended around a few places so im gonna go for this company's router, but which one do I get?

Thanks.

Right, I have a PSP online with a Wi-Fi router, so I know what you need.

What I don't know is what you've got. So, what model of BT Voyager do you have?

If it's a USB one, I'd suggest you find something like the device I linked to, which replaces the USB modem and adds the rest.

Otherwise you will need to keep the PC switched on whenever you want to take the PSP/Laptop online.

The manual is a good place to start. :-)

What model is it?

WiFi routers/access points usually have a range of around 50-100 metres which is more than sufficient to provide access anywhere in a house and usually in the garden too (unless you live in a mansion :P).

The only thing to watch out for is to make sure your current router will accept an access point(or another router/hub) being plugged into it.

Erm, yeah I have a ADSL router. A BT Voyager one.

So, if I get this wireless access point thing I will be able to use the internet on my laptop anywhere around the house?

Or will it only be in one room?

Explain, im a newb when it comes to this stuff. :)

Do have an ADSL router already? If so, a cheaper option for you would be a wireless access point. They cost around 30-40 as well though so they arent that much cheaper but an improvement in price at least. :)
