i got xbox live yesterday and still dont have it working.
its stupid really because i seem to have tried everything.
I start my xbox up and it goes through trouble shooting it says that he cables are connected but when it gets to IP/ISP or something like that it does not succeed in doing it.it comes up with some help but i dont understand it.
Could someone please help me out.

To be honest I woiuldn't do that. Auto connect shouldn't fail with direct connection.
I would remove the LIVE account from the Hard Drive, turn the modem off, then on again and setup the LIVE account again.
I very much doubt it will be anything more serious than that with you using direct connection.

Strange, should really work with Auto settings, especially without the router.
Type ipconfig /all into the command prompt in Windows (assuming you use the same connection to connect to the internet on your computer); go to Start Menu > Accessories and click on Command Prompt.
The ip addresses are found there; just copy them into youe Live settings.

Im no NTL.it says:
The network gateway could not be reached.

How do i see my ISP and i have tried the link it gives me.

Did you use Auto connection to LIVE or did you manually set it up? Double check the router IP and the IP address in the LIVE setup, this can be done through the Xbox LIVE menu.

Are you using AOL?
im using Direct connection because i am not that good at computers and the technical side and i thought it would be the quickest although i guess it isnt.
