I'm in the Ambulance service but it's getting tedious, fancy a change so am thinking of becoming a Special constable.

got some written exams and a fitness test tomorrow (they said to bring a change of clothes)

now I'm unsure what to wear

It's not an interview just some tests, do I go in a suit, and leave the tie off or do I just go smart?

this is really doing my head in!

With something like the police, which requires a high standard of dress, I'd advise smart shoes, smart trousers, a shirt and a tie, (if the tie isn't needed, you can always take it off).

For the fitness "test", just wear whatever you find comfortable to walk in.

I bet at times like these you wish you had, had strict rules regarding uniform when you was at school.

Smart trousers, plain short sleeved shirt, top button opened

For the fitness test - something comfortable.

It's just a test mind.

If you do well, they'll invite you back for an interview, that's when you wear the suit.

Oh, and a good general rule of thumb I heard (for interviews) was to find out the level of smartness required for the job, then go one step smarter for the actual interview.

On the offchance you read this before you go:

As I see it it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

But since you'll be doing physical activity I think they'll be unlikely to expect you to change back into a suit afterwards.

I suggest smart trousers and long-sleeved shirt, no tie. Ideally a coloured shirt, but no pattern, not-black trousers.
And a bag of fairly plain gym stuff.
Balances smart and professional with comfortable and relaxed.

And you could stash a tie in your bag, so if it turned out to be a smart thing, you could put it on and wouldn't be too far behind.

I recommend dressing up in black and white stripes, with a swag bag. Take a gun, hold em up and take their cash.

As for the interview, jeans and a t-shirt should do it, along with tracksuit bottoms for the fitness thing.

You can get those 'real' lightsabers now, complete with sound effects.

You'd knock em dead

Isn't it quite obvious? Wear normal clothes for the written exams, and bring a spare change for the fitness test, tracksuit bottoms, trainers etc.

with lightsabre or without?

perhaps save the big guns for the interview accompanied with some "swishhvvoommm" sounds?
