Completely forgot about this until today, so I decided to search IGN to see if there were any articles I hadn't seen about it. From that, it sounds a little like Deus Ex, only different.

Shame we'll probably never see it on a Nintendo console (I still can't believe how stupid Nintendo were to let SK go).

At least there's a chance it could pop up in an upcoming E3 for the XBox or something.

Nintendo's western second parties, RARE, Left field and SK made losses.

Dennis Dyack was walking around E3 doing interviews about Nintendo's future and didn't mention rival formats despite they fact they had parted ways.

Nintendo let them spend 3 years making ED and offered them a money maker in the forms of Metal Gear Solid. They should have no complaints.

Nintendo tend to advertise TV wise the same for ALL their games. I saw the ED add twice and the resi ad twice. I saw the adverts in the magazines for both equally. And both were covered a lot in magazines. It was also the only adult Nintendo game released at Christmas and it was bundled with the console for a limited period.

It was an awful lot of support for a second party game. Equal to well selling Starfox Adventures.

Yet the adult content and the fact Resident Evil was on the Gamecube meant it was undersold. Nintendo advertised the game far more than they are going to advertise Paper Mario which only gets print adds! And that is one of Nintendo's only games.

Yes it could have been pushed better... but it was just pushed the same as most of their "AA releases"... sure no Mario Kart, Zelda, Sunshine, Colleseum style pushes, but on par with the likes of Final Fantasy, Resident Evil (which was Capcom anyway) and Metroid Prime.

ED just sold badly. It wasn't SK's or Nintendo's fault, it didn't look great and it was similar to resi. Nintendo hardly have a big enough fan base to sell 2 similar genre games to them all.

It would have sold badly on the PS2 as well.

Actually it didn't do all that bad, especially for an original release just not as well as lets say Resi.

Future SK games will be released on Nintendo systems. I know it.

Oh come on. Eternal Darkness got near to nothing in terms of coverage. Adverts in Nintendo magazines hardly count either way, and even then I've only ever seen one ED ad while I saw several Resident Evil ones.

I can hardly even remember an ED TV commercial, I can slightly remember one like the original campaign, with all the different graphics in the cubes (Wave Race, Star Wars, Luigi's Mansion etc), yet the Resident Evil advert was not only showed far more frequently, but it was much much better.

Whether or not Eternal Darkness would have shifted as many units as Resi did (and will continue to do come the release of 4), Nintendo should have least tried to push the boat out a little. If they're willing to do it with Resident Evil, why can't they do so for other adult franchises?

It just makes no sense whatsoever.

Silicon Knight's left Nintendo because of artistic differences (so in other words Nintendo telling them what to do), so surely they can't have departed on such good terms. Because of not giving them a little freedom, Nintendo could have lost out on a fair few adult titles, Too Human being one of them.

It's not just that they're adult either, they're damn good. ED is the best horror title I've ever played. Of course I'll still be able to play future releases, but I don't know, it just won't seem the same lacking a Nintendo sticker. I love how Nintnedo make games, and their stance in the industry, but really, sometimes you wonder if they actually want to make money at all.

As for Geist, yes it looked alright. But that's about it. Graphically it looks fairly inadequate an from the 1-player videos I've seen, pretty unispiring. The concept is certainly a winner, but at the moment it looks scripted, linear and terribly gimmicky. The multiplayer certainly sounds interesting, but there hasn't really been much coverage on it.

I just hope with the extra year they give it a little polish and hopefully put as much effort as possible into freedom.

I just can't see why Nintendo are all of a sudden putting small third/second parties in charge of big projects. Sure, Geist was probably already in development before Nintendo snapped it up, but Kuju getting the Advance Wars license? Reign of Fire was good, but Advance Wars is a brilliant franchise and this is just another chance for it to get tarnished. Then there's Super Mario Ball. A nobody British developer ruins a big-name title.

Yet they get rid of Silicon Knight's and Rare...?

There was a small TV and print advertisement campaign for both.

ED had 3 years of hype behind it too.

RE is a fan favourite so was bound to sell more. But it didn't just sell more... it demolished ED.

Nah, suppose not.

Anyway, I can't recall many advertising for Resi or ED. I've seen a few magazine adds for each but I never saw any TV ads.

Graphics are still a bit off but they are getting better.

Not that, that is important in the slightest.

Giest?

*thinks hard*

Oh yes, I know. FPS. You are a spirit and you take control of other people's bodies. Apparently the graphics are poor.

Don't know much else.

A: I've played Geist and I'm betting you haven't.

B: I've watched about 12 Geist movies and I'm betting you haven't.

The game is a good fun, clever FPS with an utter killer multiplayer mode.

And Resident Evil got one advert and a few print ads. As did Eternal DArkness... which was released at Christmas as one of 2 major Nintendo releases (remember the only other BIG Nintendo game was Starfox adventures) and got an advert, loads of print ads and a lot of following on websites and magazines.

The fact is the game far undersold what it was predicted and because of which it was best for SK to go third party.

I'd hate to see such a great company go under because of Nintendo.

That is utter crap, Dringo.

Seriously, if you think ED's advertising campaign matched that of Resi you are wrong. I remember about one television advert for it (which also included other games) and very little else. It also didn't bring it out and make it APPEAL to the older audience in the way that Resi obviously does.

And Geist does NOT look excellent.

Resident Evil was advertised as much as Eternal Darkness. Both had similar ad campaigns and ED even got a special bundle with the Gamecube!!!

Resident Evil was advertised. Everyone I showed Eternal Darkness thought it looked great, and was a little push to make some of them get a Cube.
