I'm really looking forward to seeing War of the World, I'll probably go and see it tonight or sometime at the weekend. But after that, there really aren't any movies that I'm massively looking forward to until, I don't know, maybe even King Kong in December. I've waited for Star Wars and Batman and was very satisfied with both of them, and from the looks of it, WOTW is superb. But then what?

Fantastic Four? I don't think so. I've never been less excited about a big summer action blockbuster than I have this. It looks awful.

The Wedding Crashers? Will probably elicit a few laughs mostly down to Vince Vaughn, but it'll be the same as all the other Frat Pack movies - cameos from all their buddies and a nice, warm, sickly ending.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Four words: Planet of the Apes. I don't trust Burton anymore and love the original film, so I'm dreading this being sub-par. Looks alright from the trailers, but why remake an almost perfect film?

The Descent? Looking forward to it a little more after watching Dog Soldiers last night, but it still looks like a low-budget, schlock-horror movie where a ragtag group of heroes club together to blah blah blah.

Madagascar? Kids film. Shrek 2 was terrible, I don't expect this to be a great leap. And I'm getting sick of Ben Stiller now.

Dark Water? Another Japanese remake. Yawn. Jennifer Connolly looks bored no matter what she does.

I could go on. What bugs me is that the films I am interested in seeing won't ever be released in my local cinemas - DiG!, Kung Fu Hustle, Overnight, Clean... none of them dare show their face around Harlow. My locals are still showing Star Wars and Batman, several weeks after release. Way to go.

Early reviews of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have all been really positive. Apparently Burton hasn't tried to better the original, it's more of a film that can sit along side it quite happily. Chocolate Factory is very much a Burton style story, where as Planet of the Apes just wasn't. Oh and Planet of the Apes had Marky Mark in it, so it was always going to suck really badly.

Yeah, but he's made Big Fish since then.
Sure it wasn't a remake, but he redeemed himself with that.

Ah, I forgot Land of the Dead actually, really looking forward to that. That's something at least. And yeah, I understand why cinemas are still showing Batman and Star Wars, but that doesn't mean I can't be upset about it. That's one thing I liked about living near a cinema in London, the local had ten screens and usually about half of them were taken up with little-known or indie films, the kind that never get shown in smaller cinemas.

Still, Land of the Dead, phew.

Star Wars is still making big money so why take it out, and if you can find a single cinema in the country that isn't showing Batman I'd be surprised. It hasn't been out that long.
