I would have to say the most powerful and inspirational piece I have ever heard would be 'Duel of the Fates' from star wars episode 1:The phantom menace but I think it features in all of the new films. I'm sure its the echoeing choral element that sets it apart from other film tracks. I'd say 'Duel of the Fates' is closely followed by Rob Dougan's 'Chateau' from The matrix reloaded and 'In a heartbeat' by In da house from 28 days later.
what do you think? is there any music from the commercial sector that you find particularly powerful?

Ditto. Also Con Te Partiro, for that spine-tingling uplift/Tony Soprano's gonna whack me kind of feel.

FF music has a tendency to be quite powerful.
Although I'm not arguing with Playmate of the Year.
But there's a version of Blood Sugar Sex Magik that's totally something else. If you don't have their Off the Map DVD, I believe you can see it on the Winamp website.
I've found great feelings within some of John Frusciante's solo recordings also. You can get some demos from his website that are pretty strong, and it's mainly all from the first two or three albums where I felt the most. Although, Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt is a little too strong for my liking - which I can only assume is partly down to the fact that River Phoenix, one of John's good friends, died around the same time.
I just find him to be an awsome guitarist whatever he's doing. He's young and energetic in the band, but at other times, you can hear his soul crying out through the notes...

Yay, the rippling piano effect is great

Mmm, violins make [almost] any piece powerful sounding.
