Sure, it takes the stresses in words such as 'explosion' and 'exciting', and therefore gives that sort of dangerous and exciting feel required in those words.
But it's also the stressed letter in "excrement", which I'm sure you'll agree, is less exciting, and rather smelly.
Hmmm...discuss.

> Why is "X" considered so 'bad', and 'out there' or whatever?
It isn't considered 'bad', and 'out there' or whatever. Why anyone would think it is puzzles me. On the other hand the suggestion what we should do away with possessive apostrophes does puzzle me, because how else could we tell the difference between the dog's dinner and the dogs' dinner without writing either of the phrases with the possessive 'of'?

That could be one reason why it is bad.
It's like criticising the letter "u" for being in f**k and c**t. It's just an alphabet, there are only 26 letters to choose from, it was bound to be one of them.
The 'X' is potentially also used for situations like X-Rated etc, because the letter 'X' was used by the illiterate to sign their name on documents - which made the letters use seem uncivilised, and the moghuls who name porn or occult or uber-violence uncivilised draw the link between the uncivilised people and their letter 'X' and the rating of the film - therefore saying it would only be suitable for the uncivilised barbarians.
Or something.
