Well actually, I'm considering building a computer again.

The considering is the again part, you see? No? Damn.

Anyway, does anyone know of some serious compatibility issues I have to know before taking this on.

Like between HDD and motherboard or something?

I know that the processor has to fit the mobo and that's about it.
:)

*******

Also, would it be possible to build a Windows Media Centre computer?

I'm salvaging the old HDD aswell, to cut costs. Although it'll be slow.
:(

Perhaps I will get that Ebuyer one...

I've just had a quick look on Ebuyer and you can get a 200gb, 8mb cache, 7000rpm SATA drive for £70 inc VAT.

I'd buy that if I was building a new PC.

Hard drive is a bit small isn't it ?

Personally I'd be going for something rather alot larger :|

That'll do nicely with the HDD, graphics card and CD drive salvaged from the old comp, yes?

EDIT:

Just realised the graphics card I have certainly won't be PCI-E.

See Tylas thread. I've put a computer together in there similar to the ones you're looking at.

Once you've got a barebones thing, what do you need to add on to it?

I was suggested by someone else to go and find a barebones thing. Because it guarantees the main parts are compatible and stuff.

I think it's a pretty good idea from what I've seen.

General opinions though (price and quality of parts used):

To see if they work, Merm. Not to improve performance. Just because the parts will come in dribs and drabs and it's easier to find if there's a problem part.

EDIT:

And I ask about WMC because doesn't it have remote controls and stuff, which would require extra parts?
