Well actually, I'm considering building a computer again.

The considering is the again part, you see? No? Damn.

Anyway, does anyone know of some serious compatibility issues I have to know before taking this on.

Like between HDD and motherboard or something?

I know that the processor has to fit the mobo and that's about it.
:)

Also, would it be possible to build a Windows Media Centre computer?

Exactly.

Apart from the HDD I'm salvaging from an old comp (still only about 40-80GB) I won't need that much space.

I'm not a big video guy. The biggest consumer would be 2 or 3 games at a time, plus XP and my music. Music in both forms, stuff I've got from my CDs and the stuff I make.

I just wanted a rapid HDD for Windows and a couple of the things above.

Same here, my PC purchases came without fault.

Although I've only used them twice.

Seems to me like everything that anyone buys from eBuyer breaks. What's the point of great customer service if nothing you buy actually works?

Before this turns into an Ebuyer hate thread, I've always had damn good service from them. Had an MP3 player from them, it failed and they sent me another. The next one broke, this time it was slightly my fault (attempting to superglue one of the buttons back onto the PCB, cus it had broke off), but the sound was dodgy and the batterylife was non-existent. The warranty had ended and the product discontinued, but they still accepted it back and refunded me all costs.

Maybe it's because I've bought (I being me, my brother and my dad on the same account) plenty from them that they regard us as an excellent customer and they don't want to lose our custom.

It seems to happen in a lot of companies these days.

Well, it's not necessarily silly. It all depends on what he actually wants.
The Raptor will be faster, so if he doesn't need a lot of capacity and wants fast loading times or whatever, it's probably the better buy.

A motherboard I bought from them failed. I tried to contact them - no phoneline, no emails, just that eNotes nonsense. So, I send an 'eNote' explaining the situation. 3 weeks later, I still have no reply. I send another. No reply. Send an eNote complaining about the poor quality service as well as reiterating my situation...I get a reply another fortnight later. Basically, it was almost 2 months before I heard anything from them and they took so long I just went ahead and bought a replacement myself from elsewhere.

"Great".
A few years back my friend ordered a GF4 Ti4600 from them and they sent an MX460 as well. They're a complete joke.

Yes I'm well aware of their rubbish customer service thanks, I was merely pointing out the fact that buying a 40gb SATA hard drive for £70 was a bit silly when you could buy a 200gb for less or the same money.

I only went to Ebuyer as it was the quickest to look at seeing as I had their webpage open already.

Like the other week when I returned a TFT I didn't want?

They gave me a full refund plus the £19 it cost me to send it back to them.

Do you really need 10,000RPM?
Because a 200GB 7200RPM SATA hard drive is actually £7 less.

edit: haha, never mind me!
200GBs are £70 in general, not just on ebuyer, who have the worst customer service IN THE WORLD.
