got broadband from tiscali at 2 mbps, whn I try their actual speed monitor, it jumps from 1.4 to 812kb to 512kb back to 1.7 or there abouts, never at a consistent speed, does anyone know if changing the TCP window and MTU settings will help? or if there is a program that is free that will do this for me?

Tiscali is quite lousy for online games, since I've upgraded from the 256k to 512k I've noticed very little difference in my ping. Tho' whenever I'm downloading I get the full rate, providing the source is going at a decent speed in the first place. Have you checked it on adslguide? They give you a good idea of your actual speed. In the end it all comes down to what your trying to do with it.

are these speeds happening when you are downloading things, or is it showing the connection speed?
