got broadband from tiscali at 2 mbps, whn I try their actual speed monitor, it jumps from 1.4 to 812kb to 512kb back to 1.7 or there abouts, never at a consistent speed, does anyone know if changing the TCP window and MTU settings will help? or if there is a program that is free that will do this for me?

cant shake the high ping on Counterstrike source

Should be OK really. Depends on what speed you go for. My 512 connection just about copes, but Tiscali have introduced caps on most of the services now. Tho' as I'm an existing customer I managed to avoid them...

You checked to make sure you don't have any viruses or whatever that are eating up your bandwidth? Pipex looks good and if you order now then you get the first 3 months at £14.99, which is pretty sweet. Whatever you do don't go with ntl, even if they seem cheap.

Impeccable service and quality at Pipex.

I'd recommend them all day long.

Perhaps try Pipex? 1mbps uncapped for 23.44 a month, and decent pings.

Aww, I was gonna get Tiscali broadband for online gaming.
Will the fact I'm literally just 100 meters away from the exchange give me a better ping than the average Tiscali customer?

you do know though, that 2.2mbps is not megaybytes, it's megabits, so it is a little bit different. you probably knew that, and you also knew that max download speed of like a file is about 200-250

i tell you what, before i did a reformat, my ping was like always below 60, or 80, but now it's not lower than 100, well sometimes it is, but you know what i mean. could be because of a wireless connection?
thats what maybe changed my ping a little

it's always says it connects at 2.2 MBPS but when I test the speed it varies up and down quite frequently. My ping has is always terrible too, not often going under 100ms
