Anyway, having a dreamcast as well I can also say that it is nowhere near as good as N64. It isn't bad. There are SOME really great games but there just isn't enough of them. Soul Calibur, Shenmue and MSR are the best but i've played all of those to death (with the exception of soul calibur because that just never gets boring). None of the games last as long as the great N64 games (again with the exception of soul calibur).
On the topic of next generation consoles I think that X-Box will just be a PC hooked up to a TV so I'm not going to be getting that. However, having said that, the PC does have some really great games but again, having said that, I already have a PC so why would I want another. In my opinion though it will still sell by the millions because it is made by microsoft, the definition of quality. The PS2 will also sell brilliantly (and already has) but only because of the success of the original playstation. I don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. Then we come to gamecube, the JESUS of them all. I don't think it will sell the most though. In fact I probably think both PS2 and X-Box will outsell it because whenever anybody thinks of Nintendo they immediately think of kiddies games. This is a shame because I think Nintendo and Rare (who only develop for nintendo machines) provide the best and most enjoyable video games around. I know which console I'm getting. I can't wait.
At the moment however I am stuck with Dreamcast. I can't wait for Shenmue 2. Crazy Taxi 2 and Ecco the dolphin 2 will also be pretty good but these games (with the exception of Shenmue 2) will only be diversions to keep me happy while I await the greatness of Perfect Dark Zero and Rogue Squadron 2.
You are very, very biased against PS2s. This is because you most blatently do not buy any PS2 mags. If you did, you would know that there are far, far more very good games coming out other than GT3 and MGS2.
I don't pretend to know everything about the games that the GC has, so I don't criticise or promote it. Similarly, you should know that there are some totally blinding games coming out on the PS2. These are:
Timesplitters 2
G-Surfers
Resident Evil CV
WipEout Fusion
Dropship
Final Fantasy x
Herdy Gerdy
Silent Hill 2
The Getaway
Medal of Honour: Frontline
Medal of Honour: Fightercommand
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
MTV Music Generator 2
I admit I am biased to PS2 because I will defend my machine, but I don't go slagging off the GC's games because I know nothing of them. Please don't criticise the PS2's games because you blatently know nothing of them.
I say tomato, you say tomato. :-)
Don't get into the sequels debate again. Please.
Everyone has a preference, simply as that. You can't really say which game IS better, but which game you THINK is better.
I have to at least try to put an end to the sequels 'problem'.
How are you going to sell a console with a bunch of games people have never heard of? Not easily, so you plug your big guns. With Sony it was GT, MGS Tekken and Ridge Racer. Nintendo used Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
This is going to get people interested. But on the PS2 it was the titles such as SSX and Timesplitters that got people talking.
When the GAMECUBE is launched it will have some familiar characters, but hardly sequels. Luigis Mansion, an original title featuring a character we know well, Pikmin - original, Eternal Darkess - original, Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet New twist (Adventure) on the character known from the shoot em ups.
I really don't think sequels are that big an issue for the next gen consoles.
You also say it's unfair to compare a £300 new console with one you can get for under £100. Well that's the choice the consumer has to make now, so it can't be unfair.
Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to get a GAMECUBE.
Why? I like Nintendo's games. It will be affordable at a time that I can afford it(?)
I don't dislike the PS2, I just don't have £300+ pounds right now, and due to the more adult look of the games, I doubt that young Malibu would happily sit and watch me play them.
So make a decision. Base it on what games you want to play. Don't knock what you haven't tried, and keep your hands inside the carriage at all times.
For gawd's sake, grow up. You like Nintendo, ssxpro and others like Sony. Deal with it and discuss something original and worthwhile - you've said nothing that hasn't been on here before, and quite frankly, it's boring the @r$e off me. Ask Meka Dragon for some tips on how to have a favourite console and remain unbiased.
ssxpro:
Don't rise to the bait, matey - you're wasting your time. We know what we like, so screw everyone else.
