Some may remember a tale I told about a barn.

This barn, after a bit of idiocy from my close friend neal. Got burnt to the ground. In brief, my friend was working in a barn. Stacking a selection of broken chip and pin machines. It was a cold day in January and so he decided to start a fire to keep warm. Using my lighter my friend recklessly started a fire on a stack of boxes and then later, upon request, in a bin, away from danger. As the situation wore on my friend moved the bin nearer to him, which I questioned, the fire flicked from the metal bin and hit a stack of boxes. To cut a long story short, the barn burnt to the ground.

1 month later he is arrested, he tells his arresting officer that it was I that started the fire. So I was arrested. I told the truth, as stated above. 4 months down the line we are both charged with Arson.

I appear in court next week.

I am, as some will known, a Cambridge university student, with a small desire to be a teacher. This offense could see my dreams dashed and my prospects ruined. I have no idea what the minimum sentence is (be it imprisonment or community service), nor do I know EXACTLY what I did wrong.

At the moment my "close friend" still insists it was I that was responsible for the fire.

Help???

Why would I angle for attention? I'm left alone to mull over a rather distressing situation, I was hoping to gain some support or suggestions from my friends on here.

I can tell you now I did not expect to get 200 odd replies in a few days.

If we're all feeling sorry for ourselves here:

I couldn't be bothered revising for Chemistry, so I didn't.

I don't think I got an A, when I really needed it

Nice try at playing for the moral high ground, but you screwed that up with your first post on this thread, and a look around at your other posts on this forum shows you up as Yet Another Worthless Troll. Either that or someone elses gimmick account.

To answer you more rationally: facing the possibility of a prison sentence is not a laughing matter, and if you're a Cambridge student with the bright future ahead of you that pretty much all Cambridge students have I don't think it's unreasonable to say that a spell inside will comprehensively wreck the life you have planned for you. On top of it being such a stressful time for the OP you have to remember that this is the internet, you do get people that only say things to get sympathy here. Given all this, is it too much to ask that you swallow your tongue/fingers and refrain from posting "AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA AHAHHAHAHA AAHGAHGHGAHGAHGHAGA" at other peoples misfortune?

Support?
I'm not supporting you, because I've no idea what ACTUALLY happened, it could have been 100% your fault and you're lying to us, soI'll wait until I hear the verdict.

I don't mean acting in the traditional sense of not being yourself, or whatever.
I mean acting ie "your actions"

And I've forgotten what your post said, so erm.

Maybe I am just overreacting. But the stress and pressure is just making me think rather extreme thoughts.

I'll know more tomorrow.

Thanks to Munn, Ant etc... for the support, and those who are being nice.

Just better cross my fingers and hope.

"What you in for mate?"
- "Starting a fire and causing £100,000 of damage"
"Why?"
- "To keep warm"
"You cold now?"
- "Er, not really"
"I'll give you something to feel warm about, bendover sunshine :-)"

I'm not showing false sympathy for him.

But even though I hate (well, it's not possible to hate someone you've never really met) him, I'd never act teh way you're acting.

All youy had to say was "suck it up, suicide's a stupid idea" or something.

Funny, I thought he was looking at it in more of a "I'm getting a criminal record, there goes my chances of getting a good job in 30 years time"

It's still a stupid thing to think of commiting suicide, but you really don't need to mock him, considering how depressed he is right now.

I don't detect any selfishness in his posts but you just broke the needle off the insensitivity meter. The guy is down, and all you can do is kick him. Get lost.
