That I do miss Rare! I'm not harping on about them jumping ship, I just wanted to make known my appreciation for the great games they gave us!

Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Goldeneye
Blast Corps
Diddy Kong Racing
Perfect Dark
Mickeys Speedway USA (not so sure)
Jet Force Gemini
Starfox Adventures (some may disagree with this one).

Just looking down that list makes me tingle and it brings back so many memories of the fantastic times i've had over the past few years playing those great games. The days spent completing Banjo are great memories!

Anyone else in a 'Rare' reminiscing mood?

From what i've heard staff at Rare were worked to near death on some of the great games produced and therefore HAD to move on just to avoid a heart attack bought on by overwork! (and nagging wives)

I loved DK64, even though some (Strafio ;o) ) don't rate it, I thought it was way superior to the Banjo Kazooie games. Plus Diddy Kong playing guitar is simply one of the funniest things ever in a completely sad way.

But the Rare of today are not the same for the simple reason that many of their employees jumped ship when they were doing well, even before the Microsoft buy-out.

Blast Corps was one hell of a fun game. They really caught the spirit of mindless destruction.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were the games for me! Its weird cause i think goldeneye was better in the majority of it all, but cause of co-op and bots i played on perfect dark a lot more and rated as the second best game on the '64.

I enjoyed starfox myself, if u didnt put so big expectations on it and just enjoyed the easy pace if it all a nice way to pass the time.

They are the reason i will be getting an Xbox360 over the PS3, even if their games dont quite reach that of PD/BK etc etc they will still be some of the great games of next gen - but yeah thats off topic really and no evidence to know how good they will be.

Starfox Adventures was pish. Like Zelda if it were made by morons, with some tacked on space shooter sections that posed absolutely no challenge to anyone who had played any previous StarFox games...

Played a bit of DK64 over Easter when I'd left my Cube at Uni, but I discovered that the camera was appalling. The rest of the game was quite enjoyable if I remember, but I didn't get very farthis time before giving up due to the camera getting on my nerves. I'm sure the one in BK must've been better... Don't remember it being annoying anyway.

But yeah, also revisited Goldeneye and Perfect Dark which are still ace. Not Conker though, but that is awesome...

[EDIT] - Oh, and I still reckon JFG is one of the best games ever... It actually was difficult, like it had some old school shooter challenge to it, and a great sense of humour (I remember some bloke requiring you to get a "specialist" magazine... Yes, the quotation marks were in the game too...), and there was a dog with rocket boots! What more could you want? Also, the final boss was near impossible if I remember... If they ever release a sequel, I will actually buy whatever it comes out on just for it. And if it's crap I'll cry. Really.

Loved just about everything in CBFD. Still play it over and over because I just cannot get bored with it and as for atmosphere in games, well CBFD just cannot be beaten!

Perfect Dark was jaw dropping when I first saw it and again I still play the game even now. The soundtrack is first class and i'm happy to say I own an official NOA copy.

Everything to do with Conker's Bad Fur Day and Perfect Dark...

Two of my favourite games of all time. Partically CBFD as I created a rather popular website dedicated to it.

Oh I see, so I had to like every game RARE made did I?

I also did not like Snake Rattle and Roll and DK64...

Doesn't mean I don't miss RARE and think they're great.

Nintendo make loads of crud games. Doesn't mean they're not my favourite developer.

What are you trying to prove?

The slagging off aside..........!!

My favourite Rare moments have to be -

The Matrix level in Conker
The Quiz in Banjo Kazooie and the tallon trot, brilliant!
Facility level in Goldeneye - in multiplayer of course!
Darkwater Beach in Diddy Kong Racing
The Great Mighty Poo along with the song in Conker
Fighting the zombies in Conker
In fact all of CBFD - the game is just unbelievably good!

And probably many many many many more.......

SFA would've been decent if they'd made a proper fight system for it instead of the crap "button bash until they stop blocking" thing.
I reckon that the rest of its flaws could've easily have been ignored if that bit had been okay, but once that ruined the game for you, the cheesy plot and voice acting (they should've kept it all in subtitles - the "other language" bit at the beginning of the game before the translator picked up was brilliant).

As to the original list, I don't rate DK64, probably the most disappointing RARE game (aside from SFA) that I've come across so far.
The rest are gems.

I personally rate their N64 stuff better than Nintendo's.
Sure, what Nintendo did best, Nintendo did better than Rare.
Thing is, Rare covered ground that Nintendo wouldn't touch with a barge pole as well as rivalling Nintendo's own cream of the crop.

I've yet to play a game a stylised as Conker's Bad Fur Day.
I think that being sold over took a lot of wind out of Rare, and they've had a billion problems to sort out as a result, but 360 could be their time to shine again. It all depends. :-)
