2. As they'll only need to port old N64 games with minor upgrades for the touch/dual screen system it wouldn't take much work.
3. It could re-launch franchises that didn't really take off including Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps.
4. They only really need to assign the GBA team to the task. They are quicker than the normal teams and as most of them are ports with updates it shouldn't cost too much money.
5: It'll help counteract the PSP, if the PSP was to fail it'll damage the Playstation brand. Something Microsoft would enjoy.
6: Perfect Dark via wifi is a sign of things to come for PD0.
7: The touch screen could be used as a menu screen with weapons etc... easily accessible. So there too much effort isn't really needed there. Blast Corps could be great with a touch screen!
8: RARE's popularity has taken a knock over recent years. This'll remind consumers of their greatness.
9: It'll allow RARE to develop their beloved Donkey Kong franchise again. Even if it is just a nice port of Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64.
10. Nintendo fans are craving for more RARE, I am craving for more RARE. It'll be a brilliant reason to own a DS. Even a reason to own a DS over home consoles!
Liklihood? Well Microsoft denied that "at this time RARE are not developing any DS games", they didn't say it would never happen just that it isn't.
RARE on the other hand are very quiet on the matter. Since "It's Mr. Pants" RARE's infamous GBA team have not confirmed any new title. In fact now Banjo Pilot and IMP are finished what are they doing.
During a tepid seat interview with the GBA team they were asked if ports of classics like Perfect Dark will make its way over to the DS with special Wi-Fi support. The answer read "sounds good but we're not working on DS games. Or are we? Or are we?". Such throwaway comments that RARE are famous for caused a massive uproar over it. Since then RARE have fallen quiet. When asked RARE will only respond with a "no comment" rather than a "or are we?"
Scribes was recently asked if any games would be made for the PSP and DS. He let slip that it is more likely to be one than the other, before realising he wasn't supposed to be saying anything and kept quiet.
So I think it is highly likely that some of the new games unveiled at E3 by RARE (Conker and Kameo will be out by then)... there will be perhaps DKC3 for the GBA, Perfect Dark 0 for the X-box and maybe a whole host of DS titles.
Watch this space.
And that Rare have more Donkey Kong Country games left to port?
And that Rare's N64 games would be awful because they can't make games anymore?
I don't think someone's thought this through properly. :-)
By the b, are you trying to be the anti-Dringo here?
By the way it seems that Microsoft are more competitive towards Sony than they are Nintendo. Sony's sales appear to be highest with Microsoft following very closely, and Nintendo trailing behind. I think that Sony will have peaked in sales with GTA but XBox will regain hold with Halo 2 (as good as it isnt). Nintendo just cant seem to compete when it comes to sales, but they are leading the way for quality.
The QS will be out by the time they finish devloping a game
We'd get yet more Donkey Kong ports
RARE aren't as good as they used to be
They'd probably mess up Perfect Dark when porting it
1 reason why they won't
Erm, developing games for the DS would help Nintendo, who Microsoft compete more directly with than Sony, as they both get similar sales.
Perfect Dark.
Would be very cool with wi-fi...
I think that some of their N64 titles seemed sort of unfinished...
You could tell that Conker had been designed for more than 4 players.
Perfect Dark too - you COULD have simulants but they weren't as fun and the game suffered slowdown.
Jet Force Gemini needed a bit of tweaking in the multiplayer, but the worst it suffered from was splitscreen cramping.
There was also a common problem:
You could see your opponent's Sniper scope.
So wasn't the argument for online gaming that you can't see your opponents screen and that you oculd have more players.
And wasn't the argument against it being that you weren't with your opponents in person to taunt as you blow them away?
Well doesn't portable wireless give you the best of both worlds?
I wouldn't want to see a port of Donkey Kong 64 though.
Back to the drawing board on that.
And I think your point on Rare being a bit forgotten holds very true, and a wave of ports on the DS could remind so many people why they were once considered some of the best in the industry, which they might well be again once they find their feet! :-P
