There used to be boot disks available for the PS1 later on in its life. Is there such a thing (or anything similar) available for the PS2 that allows me to play NTSC games without chipping?

You want something like that - yes, you can use boot discs (need those as well) but with the way the PS2's disc tray works, you need a flip-top lid as well.
Means replacing the casing, but a lot better than getting it chipped.
And away you go.
Although surely there's much better things to be buying than Tekken 5.
Looks pretty dodgy.
I know all about importing, but haven't got around to it myself.
What what I've heard, though, yes.
They've got a little guide on that website I think.
So what other games do you recon I should get, seen as you said there are better ones than Tekken?

I think I'd rather just replace the casing myself, in my own time, all under my own control, than fork out some extra wodge and let some random shop guy fiddle about with a soldering iron in my console's giblets.
erk
I have liked Tekken since number 2, it's been surpassed by Soul Calibur now, with seemingly no way of coming back again. But we'll see, I suppose.
There's a load of games that never even made it over here that should be your main importing staple - mostly RPGs, it must be said, but if you like them, you're in heaven.
