The other day, my brother, who is 4 years old, said to my mum that he thought his skin was peach. To say the least she wasn't impressed. She is a firm believer that we have white skin. To be honest though, I would describe my skin as peach and if I had to do a picture for art I would use the peach, not the white. The problem my mum seems to have is that she feels he has been told that his skin is not white. This is quite possible but I think there's a fair chance that his teacher could have been quite innocently advising him on what his skin colour technically is, not trying to back away from the white/black divide.

I'm not somebody that sticks up for the effects of political correctness but on this particular occasion I'm not sure that it is being PC that is to blame. I think we are reaching a stage where to some people, blaming political correctness is the answer to everything. If a black or asian person appears on TV I hear cries of 'This is all down to being politically correct, blah blah blah' half the time.

In some cases I would agree, like the example of Postman Pat I used previously, but there are plenty of innocent cases. There are a good number of black and asian people in this country so of course they are going to appear on TV on a fairly regular basis.

One new example of political correctness gone mad that I have recently come across are the books my brothers bring home to read from school. There are set scheme of books to read, I'm sure you had the same sort of thing, when I was in infant school it was Rosie and Sam. Anyway, recent storylines have involved a boy in a whellchair getting a new jumper, Georgina and the Dragon bigging it up for the feminists, and I would say that the main characters in 70% of the books are asian, not black, not white (or peach), asian. Though, to be completely fair, I would say that 70% of that school is asian. However, the books are made for the entire country so I'm fairly sure that is not a fair representation for other schools. I'm not saying that none of the books should feature asian characters, but 70% seems a bit excessive.

I'm bored now, so I think I'll stop typing.

It's a funny situation, blown out of proportion yet again by tabloids.

At work, guy called Louie. Black guy from Sarf London that transfered over here so he can live with his girlfriend. We sort next to each other and, over the past few months, have got on like a house on fire (to the extent I've had his copy of Shaolin Soccer for almost 4 weeks now and he's getting angry). To hear us talk, we'd both be shut up in PC Prison forever and ever. Example, the radio was playing "Wind Beneath my Wings" by Bette Midler and he was singing along. I was agog.
"Dude, Bette Midler..."
"What? When you've been hurt by love, then you'll understand"
"Better Midler though?..."
"I've got the gangsta version, I play it in my 'crib' with my 'bloods' right before I smack my beeyatch up and smoke crack back in the day"
"Jesus you're a rubbish negro Lou"
"Too long with your white women, that's what it is mate"
"You stole them?"
"And your jobs"
You could report us for being racist, but we know we're not. It's passing time doing boring stuff and making each other laugh.

Yet a line manager, thinking he's being all matey and right-on, seems to think his name is Leroy.
We were in stitches, I was crying with laughter.
"Leroy?"
"Yeah, like the guy in Fame"
"Well do you dance, I suppose that's it?"
"Why not just call me Errol or Winston?"
So he's now known as Errol.

PC is a bunch of pish, a nothing issue inflamed by panicmonger newspapers.

So we seem to have:
PC militants = tosssers
Anti-PC militants = tosssers

I'd say that pattern concludes that:
militants = tosssers

Personally, I pay PC a slight lip service where necessary, and then try to ignore it. I might talk about how stupid it is if it comes up in conversation but I'd never feel the need to bring up a conversation... I think you see the difference... :-)

But does anyone stop them? I've heard kids sing it. I've never seen ANY kid start singing it and suddenly get their mouths shut and whisked in to the PC Police Van, which the tabloids seem to think prowls the street, when in fact it should be hunting terrorists!!!

I'm not saying people should go around calling each other racist names for no reason what so ever, that would be stupid. My complaint is against the over the top stuff like the example Paradox: gave of Baa Baa Black Sheep. It's pointless.

Political Correctness just wants people to think about the language they use, and how language affects everyday thinking and prejudice.

Yes, it goes over the top sometimes, but if I described someone as having niggerbrown skin, I suspect the people who are so-called "anti-PC" would be up-in-arms, and rightly so.

Good Political Correctness is about being conscientious and respectful. That's how I see it - away from the stupid, headline-grabbing examples printed in the tabloids.

I know somebody that cried when he found out that the French word for packet sounded like P@ki. I couldn't help finding that mildly entertaining.

I think political correctness gets a slightly hard time.

It may seem like a pointless mither most of the time, but in some cases innocently used language could unwittingly make people feel isolated or rejected.

Admittedly most of the time it's complete tripe spewing from retarded politicians, as a direct result of hollow games of political oneupmanship.

But sometimes it can be worth a small time mither if it saves some people some needless misery.

It is quite annoying with the asians being used in the education mostly because their names are often confusing. I remember my year 7 CAT test and it was about Jibrafkeljalksa and askabullalslaa - and I thought they were science terms. Everyone, no matter what ethnic origin, knows Sam and Rosey are names, it's political correctness gone awol.

The thing is it isn't the asians or blacks complaining about political correctness, it's middle class white male politicians. It's ridiculous that kids cant sing Baa Baa Black Sheep any more. Are black people offended that a sheep is the same colour as them. MY GOD IT MEANS ALL BLACKS ARE FLUFFY ANIMALS!!!!

Stupid.
