Right, well now that I'll be travelling a lot more, I need a loptop. Well; want a laptop. In any case, I'm just wondering quite how much I'm expected to shell out on a decent laptop - preferably, one that can play games.

Now, I've always had my eye on an Apple, only I don't have a clue about their position with games... Even so, how much for your basic Aple laptop? Are powerbooks the way to go?

-- Also, can Mac's "interface with" PCs? As in, say I have a couple of .doc (or would I have to use .txt?) documents, could I transfer them to and fro?

Finally - wireless networking. What's up with that?? Say I'm in Europe, got my wireless card plugged in, and... What? Can I surf broadband style like I can at home? Is it still on the same monthly package - as in do I have to pay extra?

(All I want to do is use my iPod, Photoshop, take pictures and play WoW on the go... Is that too much to ask?)

Sounds so sexy...

I'm just afraid I won't be able to use my "ahem" versions of programs on an Apple...

*Cries*

It's just so hard...

Though in some cases, you have to remeber macs don't use files extensions, so when transfering to and from PC it's worth adding them. Especially if you using photoshop etc.

A basic Apple iBook will set you back £700; this includes USB 2.0, FireWire, ethernet, modem and wireless - http://www.apple.com/uk/ibook/specs.html for details. £900 will get you a bigger screen, bigger hard drive and faster processor.

PowerBooks are powerful but expensive - £1050 for the cheapest (http://www.apple.com/uk/powerbook/specs.html).

Documents are fully interchangeable between the PC and Mac versions of Word, Excel etc. I have Microsoft Office X which I can, ahem, lend you.

As for WoW, the requirements state:

Mac® OS X 10.3.5 or newer
933 MHz G4/G5 processor
512 MB RAM, DDR RAM recommended
NVIDIA® or ATI GPU with 32 MB VRAM, 64 MB recommended
4.0 GB available HD space
4x CD-ROM drive
56k or better Internet connection

The cheapest iBook has all of these apart from the RAM - you can get an extra 512MB (fully compatible) for £75 from Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.asp) as opposed to Apple's £100. Also, the graphics card is the minimum 32MB so I imagine it won't exactly be a speed demon.

A PC laptop will no doubt be cheaper, though, but with an Apple you get OS X.

There probably isn't a Mac version of WoW.
