Surely some of them would have thought 6 months or more ago "Hmmmm, the pope is a bit ill, maybe I should make the journey now, so I can go to mass while he's still alive.".
But they didn't.
They waited til he snuffed it, and then decided to go.
Just seems a bit weird to me is all.

Certainly not, my son.
"Are you Pope?"
"Nope. Are you?"
"Don't think so."

Tragically, that's how my mum views her life - she more or less said it herself when she was ordained as an interfaith minister.
We have many issues with each other, her and me.

Heh. Many of the Popes of olden times had riots at their demise. It's about time we saw some good old fashioned Papal action like that.
Dammit, I want the next pope to be a debauched Venetian who shags his daughter and makes his entire family cardinals. Y'know; like the old days...
"No, I'm the most distressed about the death of The Pope"
"Let's fight"
"Them's fighting words"
I'd like to see a riot outside the Vatican, and then a sneakthief makes off with the treasure the Vatican stores and hordes. Including Nazi gold.

Yup. With the added bonus of a thought at the back of their catholic minds that says "God will see me doing this, and I'll get a better place in heaven..."
Now I can understand if you want to pay respect to him, but as always, it becomes too serious.
Same as the thousands of morons lining the roads for Diana's funeral throwing flowers and sobbing like their child had been molested on video for entertainment. Remember that peculiar moment in British History?
People screaming at the media with a fury usually reserved for peados and Maxine Carr.
People like to be seen to be upset and try to out-compassion each other, it's their 15 mins of fleeting "Looooook at meeeeee"
