"PC Graphics cards - HELP!"

I have a problem. We used to have a P3 450mhz with a Voodoo 3 2000, probably AGP. Now I have an AMD 333mhz K6 3D-NOW! and a Voodoo 5 5000 on PCI.

Monaco 2 ran pretty smoothly on the old PC, but now, even though the Voodoo 5 is better, I don't think it looks as good. I am also unimpressed with the Windows "3D Text" screensaver. I estimate about 25 fps - not good.

My mum has a P3 1ghz and a GeForce 2 AGP. The bloke at PC World said the Voodoo was better than GeForce, but I am not convinced. I am jealous that mum's PC runs games and 3D Text better than mine. The desktop also has a noticably higher framerate.

Can someone explain to me why this is? Is my card faulty? Do I need a better processor?

there is quite a few variations of the geforce 2 though right? i've got the geoforce 2 GTS.

Definetly go for an Athlon, it depends how much money you have to spend but try and go above a 600 if possible. The Athlon is a cheaper model and has better proformence.

Take a look at the prices in SR they are quite cheap!

I think you can fit a processor chip manually, though I am not to sure. But I think you can. If you are getting a faster proccesor I woudl advise better RAM as well, the RAM combined with a processor makes the whole thing run alot more better.

So what's the best chip that will fit on my motherboard? Is a CPU something I can fir myself?

Hmmmmmm the K6 is a much older brand then the P3 and does not have the better cache as it is an old Athlon model. I would say to you to upgrade you RAM a tiny bit, say add on 64mb RAM and upgrade your K6 processor to a newer Athlon (Not a K6 model). I would choose an Athlon over the P3 and K6.

The Voodoo 5 5000 is a better card then the Geforce 2, I am using a Geforce 2 and would love that Voodoo 5 5000!!!!!

I have plenty of RAM. 96mb. The old one had 64. Do I need a better CPU then? Will any K6 fit on this motherboard?

Also, is the Voodoo 5 better than GeForce 2?

The PC with your Voodoo 5 5000 in is a slower in the processor region and may well be alot more in the RAM, which is a main part of the PC for games to look good.

The graphics card can't run to its full effect if the RAM and Processor are not up to scratch. The Voodoo 5 5000 is better then your old one so don't worry, its probably just your processor and RAM that needs upgrading.

I noticed that your newer copmputer has a lower clock speed (500mhz > 333mhz). Although you may have had a MUCH powerfuller graphics card, the extra power means nothing if the CPU cant keep up with it. If your planning to play recent PC games, you will need a minimum 500mhz speed.

My PS2 is more powerful than a lot of PCs.
