Yeah due to the fact that I don't come on here every day I think the day by day formula won't work, so it's gonna go like this: Each week I will take three suggestions. This is fair, as it allows enough time for people to get each song and listen to it enough times to fully appreciate it. Feedback is wanted, don't give it out of ten just give a general opinions, and then the most widely enjoyed songs will be highlighted so hopefully a long way down the line if this thread works then people can just pick off the best songs easily.

Week One:
Flock recommends - Elliot Smith - Between The Bars
Stryke recommends - Death Cab for Cutie - We looked Like Giants
Mattributé recommends - Bright Eyes - A Perfect Sonnet
That's your lot for this week. Get downloading and let us know what you think.

There are a few like that.

I try not to listen to his album, anymore - it makes me sad to think that I'll never be able to see him live or anything - it saddens me.

Last line on Grace

"Dream asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over"

He drowned in the missisippi and was washed up on it's banks.
Although it's a reference to his dad dying of a drug overdose i think.

There are a few lyrics on Grace that really set me going when I listen to them.

I'm just waiting for Bright Eyes and Willy Mason to kill themselves. That's all these singer/songwriters seem to do.

Alright, I'll help. You should get both the albums I mentioned, and XO. But if you want a few tracks:

Pretty (Ugly Before)
Twilight
Ballad of Big Nothing
Fond Farewell
Coast to Coast
Kings Crossing
Pictures Of Me
Speed Trials
Bled White
Tomorrow Tomorrow

He killed himself, stabwound to the heart. His family think he was killed, seeing as it's an odd suicide method, but his music really is death obsessed.

"I can't prepare for death anymore than I already have"

"This is not my life, it's just a fond farewell to a friend"

Melancholic and wistful, that's what the majority of his tracks are.

Wait. He's dead? Bas. Everyone I get into now seems to have died from some kind of self-inflicted way. I'm still mourning the fact that I'll never get to see Jeff Buckley live.

So you pronounce Between The Bars to be Elliott Smith's best track but you haven't bothered listening to his new posthumous album From A Basement Or The Hill or, and practically every Smith fan will agree with me here, Either/Or - the definitive Elliott Smith album?

You just download the odd track off the internet and claim to be a bigtime Smith fan, don't you?
