I reckon that you've hit the nail on the head there, the problem is that all this money makes for better teams and better teams make more and more money. In two or three years time it's going to take a serious ammount of cash to be thrown at the teams outside of the top three or four spots to help them compete at the level that Man Utd and Arsenal and Liverpool are currently setting.

There are some alternatives but they are long term solutions like Youth development which Leeds have used to their advantage this season, or pure guts and heart which Ipswich Town will happily sing the praises of. But even this doesn't guarantee the desired outcome, Man City and Coventry both had the heart but not the performance and t youngsters are easily poached by the promise of Big Money and Silverware.

I agree English football is a financial juggernaught, but im scottish and support dundee FC, and we do alright on a tight purse string, oh btw watch out for dundee in the summer, we have been linked with the possible signing of Roberto and Dino Baggio!!

I agree money is important too, but I hate the way people think that football is purely about money - yes it's gotten a bit out of hand, but to be perfectly honest I love watching the game, I'm an exception in my family for loving football and I'm not bad myself at playing it - starting up a local women's football club, where only 5 girls turned up, and about 12 lads! But fair enough, £100,000 a week is far too much.

I agree managers do make a big impact in these sorts of clubs, but i still think that the game has gotten to a stage where money is more important in success than all of these other things, i am glad that ipswich are an exception to the rule this season, but without a major cash injection they dont have a hope of sustaining it!

Not true. Although money is important (hence the two richest division 1 teams going up, and Rushden and Diamonds getting promoted (at last) but Southampton for example - and Ipswich - they've done incredibly well, without a huge amount of dosh, but then Southampton don;t have a manager - but Glenn Hoddle did well for them - he's a top bloke, and and George Burley, what can one say? Still you need a good manager, no one can deny Alex Ferguson of being the best club manager in the world can they?

I don't think so, Walter Smith won 6 titles in a row at Rangers, he isn't a great manager, hes just got a lot of money, and Man U will never be caught by anyone other than about 4 clubs in England solely due to money!!

And that too, but a good manager is essential! Fulham haven't bought that many players you know, but they're all worth a lot more now! Mainly they have a few foreigners some Arsenal and Spurs rejects (who have excelled at Craven Cottage) and now Al Fayed thinks they can win the league! I think top 6, no better.

I think the fulham success story has more to do with the fact that Al Fayed is unbelievably rich!
