We'll run this one over the next two weeks. Somebody might need to prod me in two weeks time to choose the winner.

I would like you to go to http://Topaddress.com.

There's a link in the left side strip if you need to go back and forth.

There you will find our lovely selection of domain names.

Pick a domain or some domains which you think would be good for a nice profitable enterprise, and describe what you would do with them if you were an entrepreneur.

The single best entry will win an Extra Gameaday prize.

You can enter as many times as you like.

IMPORTANT
1. Try to get Unique Selling Points into your plan!
2. Work out why you think it would make money.
3 .State clearly how long it would take and what the difficulties would be.

I've no idea how this will go, but good luck.

And NO, we are not likely to use the winning entry, this is just the stuff of financial fantasy.

I dont want you all to get the wrong idea, and before you hurl any outlandish comments or anything of the like I want you all to know I am a 'real' christian so don't get me wrong here.

I would buy 'next-morning.com' and see if I could rally up a few female volunteers and provide a 'morning after / next morning' service and help site for girls and lads, who have had an unpresedented shock to their relationship that should hit home about 9 months later...or even just for help and/or advice.

You could provide a free service but get money from sponsors. The sponsors might include some girly-mag names like uh.....J17? Sugar?

You could see if you could get any celebrity volunteers to talk about their experiences etc and give free advice.

It might not get off the ground straight away but if you can affiliate with some girly-mag websites you could spread the word. I think that becuase more and more of this 'dodgy' stuff is happenning, young couples need some safe, reliable source of help...and plus you could always have a link to the discussion forums etc!

I know you might think this is SAD or pathetic, but what do you think the chances are of creating a gaming site that will A) be profitable and B) be able to compete with sites like IGN - Tendo Box and Daily Radar.

Well, its just an idea......

Content would be mostly adult. The appeal would be very broad, apparently 90% of the net is this sort of thing. It may well be a crowded market, but quality and shrewd marketing will make all the difference. The are numerous problems which would be encountered. Firstly, you'll have to host it on own web server, but that shouldn't be too hard for you guys at SR. I'm not entirely sure on the 'adult material' laws of this good country, but in any case you'll need plenty of disclaimers on the front page, too, or else you could get into serious trouble.

Under 18 access is strictly illegal, so credit card access is unfortunately essential, no matter how off puttting that is to your customer. Sample shots with carefully dubbed sections will be allowed, and if the quality is high enough, you should attract customers. Images need to be high resolution, else people will be unsatisfied. Good servers will be needed, as the demand from contsant viewing of large picture files is quite high, and your customers will not want any unneccessary delays.

This leaves one problem. How to get customers using the site in the first place? Since advertising adult sites is mostly frowned upon, you'll need to find less scrupulous places to put your ads. Registering yourself with search engines is a good start, considering the most frequently searched word is that well known three letter word, ending in x. Search engines alone won't be enough though, so you'll also want to put your banners on underground websites. There are plenty of 'warez' sites which do this - and in that you have your final benefit - people who miss out on your games as they download illegal ones, will be directed to your adult site.

Excellent market coverage, and highly profitable. Go for it.

I have chosen 'brillmusic.co.uk'

As we all know in Britain we get ripped off with the price of CD's, usually costing more than any other nation so my plan is to make a site with cheap(ish) CD's for the British publics.

First of all I would only sell what I call 'good music', none of your Hear'Say crap. it would be Alternative/Rock/Indie and I would have the range of recent music to the 'golden oldies' of Aztec Camera and Pink Floyd. In this choice of music I will gain the respect of those who listen to good music, also the hate of those who don't but lets face it they hit their heads of walls.

The main problem is importing CD's and selling them at a reduced price, this I could overcome by selling in a large bulk from abroad so I am still making a profit, also for the old ones those little alley shops that sell them.

It would not be any ordinary site, to encourage customers I would other live chat with bands say the 'Manics' and 'Radiohead', I would have links to their home sites, information on them, tiny parts of the songs and music news from around the world and a chat room to let customers discuss their choice of music with others. I would also sell music video's that are rare, posters which I seem are very hard to find and merchandise for the bands such as T-shirts.

Of course all this seems impresive but the main difficulty is making a profit, so I believe I can seel EVERY CD with a saving of 1p and as all orders are in Britain posting will be cheap.

With all this it should be a succesful, fun and entertaining site and I should earn trust of customers and they will keep coming back to buy my Cd's

Impressive!

Actually, if anyone is interested, my latest entrepreneurial venture is setting up an entertainment company. For our first gig (30th June Stratford civic hall, all welcome!) we have some HUGE bands like Earthtone9 and Miocene :) And it's all for charity! Expecting £5000- and this is just the first gig of many!

Our next gig will have bands ranging from Lost Prophets to Pitch Shifter (but obviously none of these bands has confirmed and no date has been set!), however, I have spoken to the bands and they are v keen!

sellyourgrannie.co.uk

Thats right, this website actually is looking for old people, maybe your granny or your grandad are just getting to old and boring around the house, maybe its time you moved them onwards...

...sell them, its all so simple now, you sell them to us, we will come and pick the up in the grannymobile and you have to sign the forms and you no longer have a granny! Infact the new documents show she never actually existed. Please have it noted that grannies are none refundable and when brought buy us and sold buy you they are then no longer a member of your family.

What we do, welll we take in your grannies and depending on how wacky and inventive there stories are we sell them, we hope to re-create the beginning of stories, instead of Once Apon a time, we could have Well in My Day.....

...The grannies and grandads we use will be looked after until death when they will have a nice short funeral, but rest assure that each granny will enjoy the rest his/her life...

...and also, the wackier the granny/grandad, the more we pay, so as the sellyourgranny saying goes:

(my full version of this)

I have chosen "onlyfools.co.uk"

Well I believe this web-site would be a success because....

Of course that great British television show 'Only fools and horses' is what I am basing the idea of attracting customers. Fans of the show might be on the inter-net one day wondering what to look up, then a repeat of the show is on TV and gives them an idea etc or they are fans so look for fan sites.

What greets them though is not a fans site but a king of auction site, get the idea since Del Boy was always trying to flog his goods. So people go on the site to flog a lot of their goods or just something they not wish to own anymore.

I believe this would work as auctions sites can be boring and basically no fun but with the theme of the show, people will be in good humour and are more likely to buy and sell things.

To make money on this site you would heavely advertise and charge a small fee when people buy or sell their goods, overall a fair profit will be made.

Some difficulties could be the copyright with the actual show but I am sure you could get away with it :D

Basically I belive the name and the idea go together well and make a winning formula and the site could make a fair profit.

Who knows goods could be delived in a Robin Reliant.

www.brilliantdvd.com

Starting with a small off-shore company, with a small warehouse, I would import DVDs from the US in bulk and store them in the place.

Once there are enough DVDs I will then use the website to promote the fact that you can buy these Region 1 films without postage and receive them in days, often getting films that are still at the cinema here.

I'd then start providing films to DVD magazines, to promote my idea and build up support. I'd run competitions to win a DVD each week and then when the money starts coming in, I'd advertise on TV.

The only downside of this is the growing number of discs that are now getting Region Coding Enhanced on them, courtesy of the big studios. These won't run on some DVD players, but I could always offer a good refund service.

ukbikes.com/ukbikes.co.uk

Although as of recently the biking trade has fallen due to the foot and mouth epidemic, mountain biking is going to pick up in a big way again in a few years. Biking is a popular sport, and the range of it is quite large.

But what could a website provide?

Time trails around the Uk. Club information, and clubs in your area, contact details. Basically information about biking in your area, and the best place to go for it.

Advertising for bike shops across the uk, so they can advertise on the site. So when you search for your area, then a "where to shop" list comes up. Obviously money can be made from this.

Another money making way out of the website is wheel building. Wheel building is very much a unknown trade, but is often asked for by bikers across the Uk. Wheels sold can be for a large range of prices, from in the hundreds to much cheaper. This could just be a small part of the site, or run in parallel.

ukbikes.com could also be a community centre for those wanting to talk about bikes, and those willing to answer questions. This could bring appeal to the site, so people will look there for bikes/wheels for sale first.

Competitions for Tour De France, for example, could be run. Sponsers could be taken from it, to help fund it, and bring extra users/customers to the site. Also, interviews with well known mountain bikers could be used as features...

Reviews of new bikes, the new season, or "What the professionals use," features, showing off what bikes are used in the business, how you could get started into it, and what bikes are commonly used. Once again, back to advertising.

I don't think sales of bikes is a good idea. It seems the most obvious thing to do, but selling bikes from a catalogue or online is terribly unpopular, as there is no after sales service, and check ups on bikes need to be made. Wheels are a much more focused sales, and would go down well in the bikes community.

That's about it.
