I have a folder on Freeola webspace that I want to delete, simple task? not really as permission is denied! So I email Freeola and ask them if they can remove it?

Reply

Unfortunately we are unable to delete folders from users web space.

Kind Regards,

Help on the FTP recommend this course of action....

Files won't upload or you get a‘permission denied’ response from the server. Your permissions may need to be reset. Call your web hosting server administrator.

Anyone had this problem before?

Hi I emailed the support person back and he/she seems to have removed it now as its no longer on the server I genuinly did it in error and did not know that we were not meant to upload that kind of file how can you have seen them used when the massage I got from support said.....

What is causing the problem is you have uploaded a .htaccess file to the webspace. WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE USE OF .HTACCESS OR OTHER SUCH FILES ON OUR SERVERS PLEASE ENSURE YOU DO NOT DO THIS AGAIN!!

It's not that we don't accept them, It's that for whatever reason, people somehow mess things up, often without knowing.

I have seen them used successfully with Freeola, but a majority of them just kill all the permissions.

If you still have a problem folder or access issues then post your domain name along with the culprit folder and I'll take a look for you.

It's a pity they don't accept it - it isn't as though it need be a big security issue, since they can restrict what is allowed to be overridden in the .htaccess file.

.htacess is a very useful file, used to do things like change extensions (I use it to redirect /index to /index.php for example) and have custom error pages (so if someone tries to go to a page which doesn't exist - /aaaaa.php or whatever - they're redirected to a different page rather than the ugly default "404 Error! The world is collapsing!" type thing).

I'm surprised Freeola don't allow it.. But ah well, they do make excedingly good cakes.
