I have a folder on Freeola webspace that I want to delete, simple task? not really as permission is denied! So I email Freeola and ask them if they can remove it?

Reply

Unfortunately we are unable to delete folders from users web space.

Help on the FTP recommend this course of action....

Files won't upload or you get a‘permission denied’ response from the server. Your permissions may need to be reset. Call your web hosting server administrator.

Anyone had this problem before?

Erm, there is such a thing. A very simple one is basically a guestbook. A form which validates and adds data to a file. Another page to display the file. That's a very simple example, and mine was slightly more advanced, but not much more so.

I wrote a very simple one once. It didn't support emoticons and usergroups and all that stuff - just simpleness.

Or ya could write your own forum in PHP that stores data in flat files and doesn't require .htaccess files ;) lol.

Looks fine to me, but after seeing you had some problems controlling a simple .htaccess file I think you should be prepared to do some 'reading up' to allow you to successfully configure YaBB or any other CGI application ;¬)

If you dont have MySQL access, try YaBB and ikonboard, seem to recall you can run both of those without an SQL DB.

Most of them require a database of some form anyway. If they do need a .htaccess file, they can usually survive without, though it may require some tweaking.
