Woah, way to go on the anti-racism campaign.

Mr Phillips said a lack of self-esteem and positive role models for black boys also compounded the problem, as well as an attitude that being clever is not cool.

Oh come on, now this idiot is really digging a hole on that one.

Young teenage boys will be young teenage boys, no matter what the colour of their skin is.

Heck, when I was at school there were white kids who thought being 'clever was uncool'

Worst idea ever.

Mm, there is a lot of knee-jerk "but that's RACIALISTIC!" from left-wing morons. Makes a change from hearing idiocy from right wing morons I suppose...

I appreciate it may not be a good idea, but I dislike the reaction it gets, as if he's said "blacks shouldn't mix with whites in our fine education system, they should have their own classroom, the smallest one, and take out the water fountain". All he's saying is "Maybe this would work". And it was only for English lessons, as well.

I very much doubt any of this will actually be put into place anyway.

Another crap piece of news for today: EU ministers finally endorse the software patent law. So now in the US and EU, we're going to see less innovation and more court cases and settlements. Hurrah!! :(

Oh, related to this article, I mentioned that different races were tolerating rather integrating with each other, and here's further evidence. This is what they call progress.

I appreciate he's not trying to segregate people in school, but that may be the effect of it.

Okay, so the trial of this scheme in Chicago improved academic results. I'd be interested to see what it's effect was on the school social lives of the kids involved. Giving schoolkids a reason to accuse someone of being different? Maybe school has changed from when I was there, but the p!ss-taking and staggeringly unsympathetic comments that were doled out to "special" kids was breathtaking. I can't see how this wouldn't lead to the same thing.

I heard the guy talk on the Today Programme this morning. I don't think it's that stupid to be honest. His attitude was "it seemed to produce good results when tried in the US, so we may as well be open to the possibility of doing it here". He's not trying to racially segregate our school system.

Was about to post this. It's...stupid.

How could that possibly make a classroom environment any more productive? I think what he really meant to say was "Trouble kids need to be removed, and on a whole in the area surveyed they were black". It's an incredibly narrow-minded view of school-life.
