I'd forgotten how good it is
I don't see where they could go with an Evil Dead 4. Much as I trust the directorial talents of Sam Raimi, and the cheesey but hilarious acting talents of mister Campbell, I can't think what story they would cook up this time.
They could do more of the same - bunch of gimps locked up in a tight space, no way out, and demons everywhere. Ash naturally the hero. Or they could go stupid with it, on a massive scale, sort of a 'Ash has to save the entire world' scenario.
Not sure I like the idea of either of those. Raimis unique camera style and action sequences have been exhausted in the previous films, it'll be very difficult indeed to create something fresh and new. And todays world is far less easily shocked by images of decapitation and demons, to make it anywhere near scary he'll have to employ some radical stuff.
Perhaps his efforts in the films 'The Grudge' and 'Boogeyman' are a taste of what is to come. I have to admit I found The Grudge pretty freaky, if a little predictable. Some seriously unnerving sequences, such as the image of the woman silhouette on the video screen.
Although the second film was hilarious, and the third was a continuation of this, I don't think constantly resorting to comedy will work with the series. In the second film it was almost as though Raimi was genuinely trying to create a scary film, but in the end it became a black comedy of the highest calibre. Bruce provides comedy even when he's being serious, so let's hope they don't resort to highly obvious jokes and universal humour for the masses. I'd be happy if it revolted the masses and kept its select cult following, but Raimi will unfortunately be thinking of the money in my opinion.
