Damnit! We've got an ant infestation at my house too, evidently. It'll be worse in the Summer when they learn to sprout wings, fly, and look uglier.

Is there a link between these two, or do they just happen around the same time?

It's not impossible, it works in exactly the same way as you've described below.

We always get ants, major pain in the nutsack. Started seeing some about 2 weeks ago, maybe its a national ant rave?

Best way to temporarily destroy an ants nest...

Get your kettle :D. Boil as much water as you can. Find the entrance to the nest, and pour it down the hole. The boiling water kills ants in about 2 seconds.

Ant powder is useless, because it has to get to the queen, which is impossible since she resides in her fat casa.

The best solution: Theres this "gel", you put it in a trap, or on a rock near the nest. The ants love the smell or something and all coming rushing to it. They take bits and take it back to the nest. It doesnt kill for awhile, which gives time for it to be spread around the nest, and hopefully to the queen.

That killed alot of the nests in our garden. But as always, they return. Its impossible to get rid of them all together.

That's what it does. It's a slow poison, so they think it's food, and take it back for the Queen. She dies, no more eggs are laid, and the hive quickly dies. Just give it time.

I personally hate killing them, and will let them be. :)

I don't see the problem. Just buy some ant killer in powder form and stick it near and around where they are coming from. Problem solved. :D
