Download a plugin for your favourite mp3 player, and audioscrobbler keeps a record of all the songs you play EVER on its website. This is good because it lets you know how cool your taste actually is, as opposed to how cool you think it is, by generating weekly and all-time charts. And my favourite song is apparently M'Gell by Ultrakurt, which I've never heard of but turns out to be a song on a mix CD I have.
Anyway, the coolest thing is that everything is linked. Click on a song in your profile and you get a list of other people who love that tune, or listen to it a lot because they really hate it. Click on an artist and you get a list of their most popular songs. Click on a user and you see all their fave tunes, plus what they're listening to RIGHT NOW. Woo! You can also get reccommendations based on what you listen to - like amazon except that it works, and throws up things you've never heard of.
And and and you can make your own groups, and I have very cleverly made a special reserve one for you to join [URL]http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/Special%2BReserve[/URL] Groups with 10 or more members get weekly charts, so Special Reserve would have its very own number one.
So, yes, you should all join.

It's basically a thing for orgainizing your mp3s by genre etc and making playlists. I never use it.
Well I've fixed it now...I had to go for general installation without media library..still dunno what it is though.
I dunno what's wrong but when I downloaded the plugin for Winamp and then opened Winamp nothing came up asking me for my username. And what's media library in Winamp?

3. Check the System Stats graph, it updates at the top of every hour. If it shows a sudden dip in submission numbers then just be patient; you're not the only one experiencing problems.
4. Restart your player - this will cause the plugin to re-handshake with the server and receive new instructions.
5. Check the log file for your plugin (eg: c:\program files\winamp\plugins\audioscrobbler.log). Look for enlightening error messages
6. Try some files from a different album, perhaps there is something strange about the tags in the files that aren't working. Let us know if that is the case, so we can fix the problem for the next plugin update.
7. Check that you don't have a personal firewall that is preventing Winamp from accessing the internet. (HINT: If you're not sure if you have a firewall, then you probably don't have one)
8. Ask for help on the forums, IRC or mailing list.
And I also think that you have to play the whole file, no fast forwarding or jumping around, so that sad people can't sit around playing their new band's song a million times a second and send it to the top of the chart.

Aye Aye Cap`n, just joined up. Wasn't sure if it was working correctly, but I can see it is now :)
Everyone join hte Special Reserve group. Now we can get a chart!
Downloaded, registered and installed. Just adding all of my music to Winamp and we're off :p
