Hello there.

I'm interested in selling my Xbox, in exchange for something new and probably cheaper.

I'm a little unsure about this "Nintendo DS" lark however; is it the next step up from the GBA or what? Or is it some sort of 'novelty extra' like the GBASP was when that was released?

Yes, I should be crawling google, but to be honest, you guys know your stuff and it'd be a great help to understand what this DS thing is.

I guess I've been kind of out of touch with this whole gaming thing, but I've only really heard a few snippets of information about this DS lark; no one seems to be making a big deal out of it.

Well it plays most GBA games anyway, so you wouldn't miss out entirely on the GBA catalogue.

OK, time to be an annoying 'n00b' by asking crap questions.

GBASP or DS?

Decide!

The game gear also required a forklift to carry it around. Portable my ass.
And the batteries were drained before you even switche dit on.

That sort of accounted towards its floppiness.

I'm probably perceiving things wrong on that front, to me (like the idiot that I am) - it just doesn't seem to convince me as a console that'll have its roots firmly planted in the ground for a few years or two.

It's what Dringo said about it being "separate" from the GBA franchise that was a little off putting.

Like I said, I've been out of touch with gaming recently, maybe because I just haven't got the money to fork out £40 for every Xbox game that comes out. I used to be really into this whole "gaming news" thing, but now I don't know whats what!

So let me get this straight, the DS isn't GBA2 but a step ahead from the GBA?

No, DS will rule all.
It'll be nothing like those other handheld flops - if you'd been paying attention (for shame) you'd hear that practically every single developer is dying to make games for the DS, dying to make the most of the touch-screen.

And I don't quite follow your logic by calling it a cash-in, then talk about GC link-up ...
And there is twixt-DS link-up, just not for GBA games.

Maybe, although consoles did generally have shorter lifespans then. The Game Gear was ahead of it's time - it has most of the features of modern day GBAs.

OK maybe I phrased that badly, but come on; it was out for like say, a year, a few games got released, then everything stopped.
