(note, I have a very healthy Mega Drive and around 30 games, my son has the Dreamcast, my wife has her books ;)
The Game Cube - it's Nintendo, it's gonna be good right? So will Sonic Team's bandwagon soak up the sales? Will Sonic versus Mario happen? That'd be pretty amazing!! Maybe Nintendo and Sega will venture in joint projects!!
The PS2 - it's not rubbish by any means, but I am not convinced by the football games on the format, and yet I think it will produce some of the best games of the next few years - the highly anticipated GT3 and MGS2?
The XBox - Microsoft's first, and possibly last foray into the console market, can they steal the limelite from Sony, and would this console be the best investment?? Who knows? If the price is right, and the DVD player good quality, I may well get this one.
thanks
if you can add to this thank you ever so much!!

Anywho, the PS2 is not a good investment - I don't believe it's as good a choice as the GameCube or Xbox and thus I am selling up now, just a 6th of the year gone and hoping to get around £240 for the machine. It's a con that there's only 2 ports on the machine, it's a con that the memory cards are so expensive, it's a con that all the games fail to fullfil my gaming desires, and it's a con that nothing AAA (or even Single A) has been released, and I'm not talking battery sizes!!!
DVD player on the machine is ok, but without a decent remote control it's not all that special!
So, definitely don't get a PS2 for your son unless he really, really wants at least 5 or so of the games, maybe one of those wouldn't disappoint, so I suggest waiting, but researching now, for the Xbox from Microsoft and the Nintendo GameCube.
Personally I am not going to get anything until the launch titles have been reviewed, the consoles are cheap enough and the world seems happy with them!!
Dreamcast is the best console on the market, bar none, sorry PS2 owners - I know there are around 10 good games, but hand me a pair of maracas, a dance mat, Samba de Amigo and I'll be entertained for hours, as well as getting fit! (Obviously I'll need a TV, Dreamcast and all the leads)....
GameCube may 'look' like it's for children, but with Sega, EA and nearly every developer under the sun signing up to pump out some top games for the machine, plus the compatability with the GBA, and the piracy problems - there won't be any hopefully, then I'd get that one mate!!!
