Ah, shuddup.
He could say he's never making another Mario ever again, how'd you like that?

Be happy.

2 things I have picked up fromthis thread

1) people who complain about Mario 128 not being a Revolution launch title - stop complaining. I don't see what he problem is. You get a most likely amazing new game (to be unveiled at E3 and released at Christmas 2005 probably), on a console that you already have, so you only have to pay £30 to play Mario 128 instead of £180. How on earth is this a bad thing? ALSO it means that when Revolution launches it will have another killer app launch game most likely, and you'll still have Mario 128. So you get 2 amazing games instead of one. Explain how this is bad. Mario 128 won't be released days before the Revolution launch, it'll be out up to a year before it. What games did Nintendo release in the year before the GC launch on the N64?

2) Those of you who think it would be good for Nintendo to continue supporting the gamecube when Sony and Microsoft are releasing new consoles are plainly stupid. No matter what business you're in, to stay in the race, you have to stay inthe race. You can't just hold back - rest on your laurels, it doesn't work like that. What if JVC had just kept making VHS players and decided not to move into DVD development? They'd be nowhere, out of the market, floundering. Nintendo have to release their new console if both Sony and Microsoft are releasing theirs - it's as simple as that. The general gaming public, the people who actually buy games - the people who buy Fifa every year and ignore Pro Evo - the 'casual gamer', are lured by new, shiny, pretty hardware - "PS3?! It'll be amazing! just look how good the PS2 was it has to be great" they'll say, and then they'll all buy it. "gamecube? that's not even as good as the PSTWO!" they'll laugh, and Nintendo will be the new Sega, merging with bandai and making games about toy robots.

Obviously for the consumer, being forced into the next generation by Sony isn't really a good thing, making us spend another £150-200 on another new console, but, then, really, everyone likes to have new things, even if they're the same as the old things just in a different package (GBA SP anyone?)

They would have to release the next console at the same time as the others so they aren't left floundering. And you shouldn't believe everything companies say - even Nintendo.

You also seem to forget that a new console will introduce better quality - you don't have to wait until lots of games have slowdown, then upgrade the console. If a new console were released, the games would be tailored to that console. So while I agree with your point that it's pointless to splash out on a new console every other year, there is something to be said for a new one.

Don't bother trying to put forward a point if you're uninformed of the situation.

Nintendo said it would last 7 years, until about 6 months after the Gamecube's release when they stated, and have done repeatidly since, that they would be more aggressive and not let Sony get the headstart - by releasing the N5 at the same time as the other consoles.

There's no rush for the next Nintendo console.

Nintendo promised the Gamecube would last about 8 years.
If the "revolution" were to come out in 2005 (in Japan) then that would just be 4 years.
People seem to want a new console for the sake of a new console.

The N64 couldn't handle it's games anymore.

Perfect Dark, Conker, Banjo Tooiee, all we showing signs of slowdown and possibilities being held back by the lack of power.
What can't the Gamecube do?

Sure, better graphics can be done, but to pay another £200+ (when you include all the accessories) for it? This is everything Nintendo were talking about being against a few years ago.
The recognised that the next step up in computing power would be insignificant and almost irrelevant.

Sony and MS only justify it because their method is to throw money at their consoles until they own the market. The only REAL new thing they'll be offering is advanced online options.

Also, have you noticed how Nintendo have refused to make the most out of the Gamecube's power as it is? What's the point in more.

Now we know that the DS dual touchscreen was a great innovation, but without the N64 beating power and the wire connections, would we still think that it was worthwhile.
What's gotten us more excited?
The new touchscreen based games like Wario and Feel the Magic or 64 style multiplayer Mario and Gamecube style Metroid?

So seeing as the jump to modern technology power doesn't justify a new console, and maybe online gaming but only if Nintendo have something really solid that they plan to impliment from day one, then it would take something REALLY special to make it worthwhile.

Is such a thing possible?
Maybe, but I'd give odds 99-1 against it!

I reckon there will be a time when a new leap in power will be worth it, but not for another 4-5 years atleast. And if Nintendo are serious about online gaming then they want to pratice it a little more on the Gamecube or DS first.

And what "revolutionary" idea's would they have up their sleeve anyway?
A new controlling method?
Some 64DD style creative pack?
Anything they couldn't just add onto the Gamecube for a fraction of the price and without forcing you to buy a whole new set of pads/memory cards?

I think that the DS and the Gamecube is everything they need for the next 3-4 years or so.

Must have missed that. Do you have linkage?

Mario 128 would sell tons more on a new system and on a new system it would look and sound better. By the time 128 is launched it will be near the Revolution release and it could easily have been held back and souped up.

But it does mean we wouldn't get it a big Mario title so soon. What better way to welcome in a new console? I personally would have loved to see Mario 128 launch the Revolution.

But those games have always been planned for Cube. From earlier comments Mario 128 could have been on the Revolution and as it now looks like it'll be on Cube it'll be very late on it's lifecycle, further than Zelda and Resi 4 and could much easier have been held back and benefitted from the

Metroid Prime?

I'm not assuming there won't be a big release for Revolution and don't believe I said that. I was just expressing dissapointment Mario 128 won't be held back to make a very, very good launch title.

Why are you presuming that Mario 128 is the only big Nintendo game in production???

Going on recent form it is "unlike" Nintendo to release multiple Mario platformers one after another but they've done it in the past. But there is also the possibility of a Donkey Kong game, a Mario Kart game, a Pokemon game or a Zelda game... as the console is 2 years away it is also likely that Retro will have the next prime game up and running by then.

Assuming that Mario 128 being on the Cube means there is nothing good to launch a revolution is not only foolish but also jumping the gun.

Yes they have, about a year ago now.

As for Mario 128 being released on the Gamecube what exactly is the problem???

Mario 128 isn't a revolution launch title?!?!??!?!?! My God NOOOOOOO it must mean that Nintendo haven't a major release for the Revolution, it must mean that we'll get a Luigi mansion type game!

What people are forgetting is that the concept for this game was decided years and years ago whilst the new concepts being used in Revolution is still being finalised.

Nintendo are not famed for simply porting another game over to the next system... how is that going to "show off" The Revolution's new features when it was designed originally for the Gamecube???

Mario 128 will have better graphics on Revolution, but then again so would Resident Evil 4 and the next Zelda. Maybe these should be canned too.

I don't care what console the game is on, I'd like it to be a big Gamecube release because we haven't had one of those for a long while now. But I'm not going to assume that if it is there won't be a big release for Revolution.

Especially as that console is still 2 years away.
