hi all,
i use a 550w PSU and usually all is fine and dandy, but it randomly became really loud and then refused to work. it works fine on a spare PC i keep to test these little things out on and likewise, the other PSU works fine in my regular machine (which i'm currently running using the PSU from "spare")

any ideas what may cause this? as the PSU i'm using now is only a 300w one and i have a fair amount of stuff that requires power so obviously i'd like to get the 550w one back in a.s.a.p.

any suggestions?
thanks peoples!

well the butterfly one is fairly pointless for me as my tower has no windows or anything, so the pretty lights and things will be wasted on me.
but if the antec one is reliable then i'll go get that one.. even if the nexus one DOES have a huge fan on it :)

I wouldn't hesitate to go for the Antec, that baby certainly won't let you down anytime soon - Then Iam biased (being a very happy Antec customer) :P

last night the spare psu i'm using ALSO started making an ungodly noise. this seemed a little daft to me so i whipped the case off the pc and started it up and it turns out my front tower fan is shot. whether or not this had anything to do with the last psu failing to work i don't know, but i'll be buying a new, non q-tec unit soonish. the one i'm running now is a 300w Eagle and it seems to be doing the job! pretty quiet too! :)

Well I fried around 5 PSU's last year, finally ended up with a 450watt Taurus X. I was told it was going to crap and die by a lot of people, but its running my pc at the moment. 5 case fans, a set of neon’s and a volcano 12 fan at 5500rmp. And take into account 3 of the fans have LED'S in and I have 9800pro which needs extra power. It was a barging at £25 and I have a 5 year guarantee on it.

I'd be careful. It's likely to burst into flame, even unplugged, and you risk burning your house down. ;)

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
