Half the time, I'm looking at the screen in slack jawed wonderment.............
"there is no place in this enterprise for a rougue physicist" Bwhahahahaha, quote of the year.

Well, the first part of your post is all personal preference. I prefer the fact I can carry more than 2 guns at a time. The Physics though? You can only use "that box"? Dunno what you're getting at there. I've been stotting bottles, crates, cardboard boxes, shrapnel, beach buggys, wrecked cars, watermellons tins of paint etc etc off enemies. And the last level, oooohhhhh the fun........... I spent nearly an hour "playing" with a combine soldier.

Yep. Yepyepyepyep.
I thought "Oh christ, here's the generic 'you've lost all your weapons' level that seem to populate games these-days, a shame because this has been innovative so far"...until I realised they left me the gravity gun.
And with that beardy evil science bloke saying "Look at the destruction you've caused Freeman", I did more.
And more.
People sure do fly well, and I threw them all into the energy cores/up in the air/over balconies.
The only comparison between Halo 2 & Half-Life 2 is the somewhat abrupt ending to both.
I don't know what takes place during the ending but Valve are apparently working on Half-Life 3 on the QT with only minor refinements to the engine thus a hell of a lot shorter development time.
I loved the Opposing Force add-on back for Half-Life and something similar would be really pleasing.

SPOLIERS
I haven't played Halo2, but have to say I loved the ending to Half Life 2.
Freeze. Huh? What the hell's going on here? What?! Highest bidder!? HUH? Credits and cool music.
Excellent. I love stuff like this. I played it again to see if I could make sense of it, and saw a Combine Overseer on the screen (I missed it the first time) just before the final battle.
Yet MORE questions asked, without any answers. Good stuff.
But let's be honest, the game could've lasted for 382 hours and I'd still be "I want more"
Halo 2 ending is utter toss.
"I'm going to take the battle to them. On Earth. This is it" etc etc and then credits.
Hang on, I've just gone through level after generic level of shooting and running, don't dangle mass battles in front of me and then stop.
