After reading the above, my curiosity took me to this well written and quite touching series:

Although some would despute the authenticity of the above. However the link below, I found very very eerie indeed that is amazing; a whole city intact, but witout a single soul. The Woman in the picture is the very same "Rimma" who guided the game makers in the first link. The picture has been stitched up to produce the panoramic effect, hence the appearance of Rimma twice.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the thought of all those poor soviet firemen being sent with hosepipes to put out a nuclear fire very disturbing indeed.
Apparently most of the helicopter pilots that flew the helicopters illustated in the vehicle graveyard are now dead due to receiving unsafe doses of radiation. Somewhere if you google it, there is also a clip showing manual workers handling concrete pieces from when the reactor first exploded, that had dangerously high levels of contamination, they were only allowed 40 seconds at a time, however most of these people are believed to be dead.
However, its funny that the wolves and boars in the area seem to be resilient to the radiation.
Hope you find some of the links interesting.

Aha, "don't move after being shot, this will cause death by radiation poisoning, making the experience as realistic as possible"
They just wore flimsy coats and masks and they had no idea what was happening/what they was going in to clean.
The fact they didnt tell the people of the town for several days is just inhumane! They left them exposed to radiation for no reason, disgraceful.
But a part of me thinks "Maaaan, the mother of all paintball games there"
It's quite harrowing to see all of those pictures.
