Anyhoo, I'm gonna go check if you can get the grav gun...
Glad I had my fill of "R0XX0R!!!" and "5UXX0R" asshats before games got too heavy on graphics to require broadband to play online.
Did used to play Wolfenstein online a lot and that was fun, mainly because it demanded team-play to win instead of basement dwelling pallid 12yr olds that were computer-reaction fast.

Exaclty. It's for nothing and it's quite a fun little diversion. So what if there's ony a couple of maps? It's obviously a quick hack to give the players what they want and it's going to be expanded upon. Whoever makes a decent map for the game will win a prize (3000 dollars?), the players get to chuck stuff around with the grav gun and everyone's a winner.
It aint gonna change the world, but Counterstrike can sometimes get a little dry. For out and out carnage, Deathmatch classic is still my favorite.

Not bad for free, and my pings don't seem to go higher than about 70, which is still decent.
they have a map contest cause they want people to make stuff for them. i think it's a real shame, although i didn't think much of halflife 1 multiplayer.
counterstrike all the way
In Counter-Strike:Source, the highest I've had is 40 constant. It does spike now and again, but I've never had a major problem.
I can't wait to check this mode out tonight - was planning to yesterday but my DS came so I was a little distracted :D

THAT'S rubbish. Had a quick look this morning and had loads of fun throwing explosive barrels at people. Bit laggy on a <60Ms ping, but still perfectly playable.

Can you tell I was frustrated? I was after a quite night shooting people in the face, and got hassle upon hassle. Anyhoo, I've just been plagued by problems. Steam being one of them, but even connecting to a server was just throwing up the Server info screen, and I couldn't do anything, and quitting dropping me Internet connection. Even on startup without loading steam, I was dropping the internet connection and would have to wait 5 odd minutes to get a ping, and a further few for the DNS to resolve. Infuriating.

Wasn't exactly how you've described above, but uninstalled the single BT packages from control panel. Yahoo help is coming off tonight. It's terrible. "Your internet connection is not working". Well, no s sherlock, if it was, I wouldn't be looking at the help!
Totally didn't think to do this (I've ahd BB for a month now) like a Noob. Steam problems fixed, connection problems fixed, and hitting 1007 dl on the asdlguide speed test (+350 from what it was). Yahoo browser? I think not!
Cheers for the above.

It isn't and you have.
Another update for me, again. Seems like Valve are again trying to fix the numerous problems some people seem to be having.
Give them credit though, at least they are trying. When EA released their buggy Battlefield Vietnam game earlier this year, they did and said nothing to the hundreds who complained, until about six months later when they released a patch, which didn't fix anything.

Calm down, pandaemonium. Its Steam, Valve have made many mistakes with the whole Steam thing. Everyone is having problems, from rubbish audio and graphics, to people having their accounts blocked (20000 the other day) even HL2 causing a massive system crash and deleting windows boot files.
6 months from now everything will be fixed, the game will run perfectly on every system and Counter Strike will be declared an Olympic event for the next games. I guarantee it. Scouts honour. Or your money back.
Also, about BT yahoo broadband: go to start->control panel->add/remove programs and remove:
BT popup stopper
BT e-mail filter
BT web browser
BT " HELP " (!)
BT firewall.
That stuff is useless.
Seriously I did that after about 30 mins, it kept trying to tell me what the weather is like in Glasgow, and a bunch of goddamn adverts.
