Nintendo, make Metroid yourself and let them make some kick ass uber sized game.

I disagree somewhat with that. Metroid Prime is a legendary game and has cemented Retro as one of the finest teams Nintendo have. It is also one of the most starkly original titles on the Gamecube along with Pikmin.
I find it is alright for Nintendo to release Echoes, I think that is acceptable. Just as I find two Zelda adventures or Mario platformers acceptable. One tests the boundaries and one refines it.
But add the fact a handheld Metroid title has come out every year for the past 3 years and you are seeing a bit of an "over-kill" as WS rightly calls it.
To be fair, from what I gather, I can't see how Retro could further the Prime series in the current generation. Perhaps now it is time they expanded and released a "second sight".
> I thought Zero Mission was just a re-make of the first game?
Yeah, and it was fine until you got to the bit they added on to the end, which totally ****ed the storyline in the ass. It would be nice if the developers, having taken over someone else's franchise, actually bothered to know the story.
I mean, she's flying off and *wham*, her suit vanishes. I mean, WTF? Don't these idiots know anything? Her suit can't come off!
Metroid Prime was acceptable to be slotted inbetween 1 and 2, but there was something in Echoes (can't remember now) that I remember annoyed me cause it screwed over the existing story.
WS, you've hit the nail on the head. Squarely.
I'm not going to complain about the recent flood of Metroid games... they were all about par in terms of depth and gameplay, but they're still not the Metroid games we know and love... Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid- all three were amazing and pushed boundary's in many, many directions.
It's a dire shame that the series isn't as legendary as it once was, but I'm not going to start complaining yet.
A few years prep whilst they develop that true Halo beater we are yearning for.
It's like Zelda, fair enough we haven't had many traditional Zelda games but Link is appearing everywhere. And the same can be said about Mario, but that's not exactly abnormal.
No, Nintendo should develop sequels to their franchises but not one after another.
But don't go giving PRime to someone else. That's just mean.
I thought Zero Mission was just a re-make of the first game?
Super Metroid was an absolute gem, and Metroid games have always been few and far between - amazing games that were very subtle and understated.
Now what have we had in the last 2 years? Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Hunters..
FFS, just stop it already! It's too much! One Metroid game per console, they are special, something to be savoured. Now it's continuously being shoved in our faces, yeah they're all brilliant games but frankly the series is suffering in the long run. It's bad enough that Prime 1/2 and Zero Mission have completely ****ed the storyline in the ass, why couldn't they just make the games lead on from Metroid Fusion?
This over saturation of Metroid games has to stop. I don't care what any of you think (don't even bother Dringo, I know exactly what you're going to say), if you disagree with me you are wrong. Go ahead and let Retro make a FPS of their own creation if you want some western Nintendo games, I'd be happy to see them do anything of their own rather than keep flogging the Metroid franchise.
End.
Retro are Nintendo. It is easy to see them has a seperate studio working for themselves but they're not. They a small American game development team who answer to NOA. A bit like NTSC, accept NTSC are a bit bigger.
> the team that was HURT when they found out NTSC
> were making a DS version of their popular game...
As far as I know they were just unaware of the fact.
Although Hunters is *such* a ripoff of Prime (music, sounds, looks, enemies, controls - the lot) I'd be suprised if they weren't a bit miffed.
Let them develop new franchies/products in their own time.
