So? Can they?

Hundred millions pounds later, 'Chelski' are the first real challenge to Manchester United's unprecedented Treble. Only difference is, they're going for the Quad.

A breif look at any Chelsea teamsheet will show their class. A solid defence, Cech is one of the best in the world at the moment, second only to Buffon in my books, Terry and Gallas are rocks at the back, with Bridge and Ferriera offering support on the wings. However, both of these players are weak - they have been unlocked on more than one occasion, generally leading to those rare goals. Admittedly, this isn't often, but you build from the back. The midfield is stunning. Robben, Duff - arguably the best wingers in the country. Their pace is outstanding, and they both have the skill and finishing to create goals from anywhere. Lampard runs the game, his determination and goal-scoring ability give him the keys to any teams defence, and Makelele is invaluable with the ammount of attacks he breaks up. Up front is where you'll find the weakness, although neither Drogba or Gudjonssen can be called weak - but they still don't rival the likes of Thierry Henry and Ronaldo. They have the squad, but there are holes that could well be picked at over the end of the season, as players begin to tire.

The European Champions League, will be their hardest challenge, their Everest. Mouriniho, who won it last year with a Porto side who, at the start of the season, wouldn't have challenged a fly, is the man for the job. They have the experience as well - Makalele, Drogba and Smertin, to name a few - to go all the way. But with oppositon such as Real Madrid and AC Milan, do they really have what it takes?

As for the 'Barclaycards' Premiership, they've already got one foot through the door. 7 precious points from holders Arsenal, they look odd's on. But Arsenal's squad is fit, and, while it may not have the depth of that million-pound squad, it does have the experience of winning it, and it takes a lot to do that. Only 4 points behind Arsenal are Manchester United, who have won the league more times than any other, who are known for their late finishes. Don't count them out, they already proved they have the strength and resilience to come back and fight for it. Chelsea are certainly the favorites for this one.

The FA Cup and the Carlings Cup are certainly possible, with few challenges in the way, and Chelsea's huge squad have the size to cope with the ammount of strain these put on the team's performances in the major competitions.

Personally, I don't think so. The Premiership, and maybe the Carlings or FA, but though they have the ability, but I don't believe they are there - yet.

Chelsea's last 3 away games of the season are man utd, bolton, and newcastle which will mean a bit of travelling for them!

not all doom and gloom.

Not a chance.

How many times have Manchester United pulled it out the bag at the death?

More than the *rse anyway.

Oi! The Prem may be up for scousers, geordies and errr Man Yobs, but us lot down here at Highbury still think there's something left in it. As we proved a couple of seasons ago.

Infact I think I'll draw conclusion from that.

If Chelsea are 8 points or more up after the 19th March, I concede the title.

Of course Chelsea can line up a quad, but the best tactic's to aim for one at a time. Players might get drowned with games or lose focus. One at a time and we might see a proper 4 title season. (Yes that's right. Keep it hushed 'pool boys)

I don't think they'll do the quad but you'd be a fool to completely rule it out. There's just so much depth and quality in their squad, and if they bring in another striker around about now who picks up form they'll be unstoppable.

And Ferriera is not weak, and Gallas shouldn't play centre back.

I'd say they could very well do it. Premiership is more than sown up already barring a disaster and i think if they get past Ronny and Barca then they could well win the Champo League. The other two are up in the air

there isno reason why chels won'twin the quad. its likely we will screw upsome where however it is by no means definite, for fergie to say it is impossible is however bordering on the idioic

Premiershi may require more consistency in the long run, but it does allow for little blips for which you can mkae up latter. Make a few, or even one mistake, in the knockout stage of the champions league and you are out of it.

I think fergie's 8 premierships and only 1 europeon cup shows this.

Being a United fan, I really hope you're right.

But 11 points over 16 games will be tough, but then again - 16 x 3 = 48. So 48 points up for grabs, and Chelsea only need to lose 3-4 times and draw a couple to turn that 11 to 0 - and if United can pull a run together, there's every chance we can steal it in the end.

Hmm, I'd say that the Premiership is more difficult to win. To maintain top form for 38 games, etc. is probably be harder than cup games, as these give the players incentive so they can play better, and also there's a chance they can get lucky (Porto v Man Utd.)

Thar probably didn't make sense, I'm pretty tired.

I'm not convinced we'll do it. You're right, the CL will be very tough to win.

But a domestic treble is definitely a possibility.
