A year and a half ago my parents got me a Dell Dimension 2400, mainly as it was quite good value for what I wanted it for. (Internet, writing essays and storing music/pictures).
However, I kind of want to play new games on it now but this system isn't that great for it... so I'm going to upgrade it as best I can. I probably should just use the money to buy a mac or something but my parents would go mental, probably.
Here it is here http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Dell_Dimension_2400_Cel_2_20GHz_128MB_40GB
I have only have one slot for memory, so I'm thinking of getting a stick of 512 RAM, plus I need a really good graphics card.
Erm, so please help tell me what I need and any suggestions. Plus, do I need a new motherboard?

If you want to have a "beast", then spend your time researching how to build a PC - it's not hard once you understand it - it's just like a giant Lego project.
And also research components for PCs on different sites. I got what at the time was about the best PC you could have. I built it for £1150, but if I had bought a PC at that spec, it would have cost nearly £3000.
It shall be beefing me... or something.
Put up with my PC for a few more months. Stick some of my wages plus my upgrade money aside. Research into computers then buy a beast whislt selling my Dell crap for £100 or something.
However, after learning about PCs over these two days I've realised that mine is pretty useless and a lost cause.
A new guitar and more PS2 games it is then.
That's a very good case and a beefy power supply for a bit over £40. Great if you wanted a red or a yellow PC tower :S
Or not bother doing anything at all.

Yes, but I don't honestly know where PCI Express motherboards are at and I haven't detected any of the usual screeching you get when a new technology is at the point where it's really taking off. My advice is to stick with AGP for now.
I opened it up today, there is no AGP slot to my dismay.
There are only three PCI slots, the middle one is stuck with a big stupid integrated thing that I'm not sure I will be able to get out.
